Mercure Bristol Grand Hotel

Liked: Warm welcome; friendly staff.

My partner and I were quite surprised by this hotel. It was quite posh! However, there was a diverse clientele which was good to see. We really enjoyed our stay. We had a standard double room - the bed was comfy, the room clean, bath towels/toiletries were supplied and clean towels everyday! There was a kettle and different coffees/tea available which was extra handy. You just have to search the drawers for them. :) There were extra pillows and a half decent TV for those chill out moments relaxing. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel - we thought it seemed a little expensive, but we didn't see portions or anything so can't really comment, except that they were busy at breakfast! The staff were very nice and helpful. There is a bar underneath the hotel called Marlows which was an excellent place to have a quiet drink. We went to a gig on the Saturday night and didn't really fancy the busy clubs - Marlows was perfect for an evening drink. Lovely seating and atmosphere to the place. This hotel was great and although it's a tiny bit pricey, I would use this hotel again. Sometimes, money doesn't matter if you're looking for a good time. My partner and I had an excellent stay - the place was easy to find, and so close to town. Would definitely recommend!

Comfortable but could have been...

Liked: Location to town and car park next door. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really lovely lots of choices and freshly cooked.
Disliked: Only 1 light bulb working above bath so too dark to do make up. Lovely dressing table put in darkest corner of room with no mirror so couldn’t use to do make up either where as you could have placed dressing table by window with lots of natural light and moved storage/ safe unit next to tv ,didn’t take shower as there were tiny little insects wriggling around in tub and we had trouble with door getting in and out of room.

Liked: Location excellent
Disliked: The bar was shut at 1030 and no one was prepared to serve me at 1035. Seemed odd so I went to hotel bar a few doors up and could stay till late. Room was very dark 132 even on a bright summer day and the lamp did not work.

Pretty solid hotel.

Liked: The hotel is nice, clean and the staff are friendly. The bar area is really nice too. The location is fantastic. We were able to leave our bags at midday and come back to check in later. Check in was easy and straightforward. The rooms were well signposted.
Disliked: Our kettle was broken, we discovered this on the first morning. We took the kettle to reception but they couldn't find a spare and said they'd have one sent up. The kettle never appeared sadly. The room was mostly in good repair but the shower hose leaked and some furniture could do with a refresh. A fridge would also be useful.

Liked: Location was good, staff were very helpful and friendly.
Disliked: The air conditioning did not work which made it unbearable in the room in hot weather. Every time we went out and came back the key card stopped working and we had to go down stairs to reception and queue to get it activated. This also happened to other guests which caused a long wait at reception.
