OK but not good when...

Liked: I liked the location. It was easy to get to off the motorway and only 2miles from Bolton Stadium which is where the event we were attending was.
Disliked: From the moment we got there, there seem to be problems. The staff did not seem approachable and barely smiled at all. The shower didnt actually work until our last night there. There was not even hot water for our first night.

Passable

Liked: Location worked for us and breakfast was lovely.
Disliked: Room was basic. Radiator was broken and would only stop screaming when it was turned onto full, so had to open window as well.Shower pressure was quite poor and it was a shame not to have plug sockets next to the bed.

Dreadful.

Liked: Good location for the conference at Middlebrook, staff were friendly but not particularly welcoming apart from the duty manager, Zowie.
Disliked: It was filthy, the rooms were tired with torn wallpaper, one day there was no water, and the whole place did not make me feel comfortable.

I have stayed here before...

Liked: Room was adequate for my needs, I was there for 5 nights, room was clean, enough towels etc. I asked for extra tea & coffee and it was replenished straight away.
Disliked: For me, but only because of my reason for being there was that it was a little too far out and I spent a fortune on Uber's, I was there to see my elderly mother in law who lives in Horwich, and was taken to hospital then got moved to a rehabilitation respite home even further away from the hotel, that is not the fault of the hotel, just circumstances at the time.

Liked: We were late down for breakfast, we got the times wrong, they did us the best, hottest scrambled eggs Etc I've ever had when eating out....

Good sleep

Liked: Really clean room (thanks to Jamie), comfy bed, friendly staff, nice to have access to the pool before breakfast. Great breakfast with some vegan options (and oat milk). I found everything really good and yes, there are some dated aspects to the hotel but I found I had a great sleep in a clean and comfortable room, along with a great start to my day, with a swim and filling breakfast. Many thanks to the team at Mercure.

Basic but comfortable

Liked: The bedroom was comfortable and the bed was very comfy. Location was good for us as we were visiting friends nearby. It had a big car park and parking was free.
Disliked: Dated and tired especially in the public areas.Needs freshening up with a good coat of paint and carpets need replacing throughout.Restaurant and bar area was very dated and not at all inviting.Found it strange that there was a lot of ambulances parked in the car park??

Ill not be back

Liked: Portugese lady on reception on arrival was lovely, pleasant and welcoming. Welcomed with a smile and nice and chatty.
Disliked: Restaurant was closed and thus served in bar, next to no food available so ended up with soup for a meal with some measly small pieces of over cooked ciabatta, bready followed by Rhubarb and Ginger Cheesecake. there was no rhubard and no ginger and i was actually served what looked like cheesecake with passionfruit ( i could tell by the seeds and a couple of piece of strawberry. Good job i didnt have a seed allergy ! then got to my room which was the furthest room away from the reception (885), hotel was definitely not that busy that i need to be the last room on level 3. Went to make a cup of tea to find a dead fly. Given i had driven 2 hours i expect to be able to eat a good meal and not be met with a fly added to my cuppa. the final straw was the dripping tap all night. ill definitely not be back thats for sure and i will be seeking a refund for such poor amenities and because of this i bypassed breakfast opting for something from the local supermarket! There were even other people staying who went out to find takeaway and food, this categorically should not be happening given what is being paid for at the hotel and you should be able to receive decent meal.
