The Spotlight on Mercure Barnsley Tankersley Manor Hotel

Historic Charm Meets Modern Comfort Near the Music

A traditional Yorkshire manor with contemporary touches, Mercure Barnsley Tankersley Manor Hotel offers a relaxing retreat just a short drive from both Barnsley and Sheffield. Set in the village of Tankersley, this hotel blends countryside calm with easy access to the region’s top live music venues. With free WiFi, on-site dining, and a full spa and leisure club, it’s a great pick for concert-goers looking to unwind before or after the show.

Why Concert-goers love it

Located conveniently between Barnsley and Sheffield, the hotel is a smart choice for catching gigs in either city. After a late night out, guests appreciate the quiet village location that makes for a peaceful sleep. With 12pm check-out, there’s no rush in the morning, and the availability of room service into the evening means you can refuel without leaving your room. Parking is free, and the hotel is easily reachable by taxi or rideshare from nearby venues.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends heading to a weekend festival or gig
- Solo travelers wanting a safe, serene base

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Bar and Brasserie serves up hearty, Yorkshire-inspired dishes in a modern setting. While there’s no 24-hour room service, the evening menu means you can grab a bite post-concert. Breakfast is available in the morning, perfect for late risers. For other options, a short drive gets you to pubs and takeaways in Barnsley or Sheffield.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself doesn’t host live music, its location makes it easy to access local nightlife. Sheffield’s buzzing bar and club scene is only a short ride away, and there are several country pubs nearby for a more relaxed evening with a pint of something local.

What People Say

Guests praise the friendly staff, clean rooms, and relaxing spa facilities. The leisure club—with its pool, sauna, and steam room—is a standout for many, especially after a night on your feet at a concert. The historic setting and peaceful atmosphere also get frequent mentions.

Areas for Improvement

The slightly out-of-town location means you’ll need a car or taxi to get to most venues. Some guests mention that the décor in rooms could use a modern refresh, but overall comfort still ranks high.

The Bottom Line

A cozy, countryside escape with easy access to South Yorkshire’s music scene—ideal for unwinding after a high-energy night out.

Lovely area, strange receptionist

Disliked: Receptionist on arrival failed to tell me I needed a code to enter the building. Had me scanning my card in the pouring rain, running back and forth to reception trying to get in with my luggage in hand.Might have been a bad day for the receptionist or he thought it would be funny to watch someone struggle in the rain.

We wouldn’t stay at this...

Liked: It was reasonable and comfortable
Disliked: There was no room telephone and on one evening on our return from a wedding we required to contact reception We had to contact the hotel reception by phoning the hotel on our mobile telephone to speak to someone When I asked how we were supposed to contact reception I was told I was supposed to scan the bar code on the information leaflet and send a message Which made me think what happens if you have an emergency illness that is not a great System and also there is no explanation of this when you check telling you to do this And what happens if you are not carrying a mobile phone or you are not technical enough to scan a bar code It is surely the responsibility of any hotel to make sure that guests are able to get emergency contact when required not relying on guests having mobile phones
