Very good
Liked: The location was fantastic. Staff were friendly and accommodating.
Disliked: The lift was out of service during our stay. There was an alarm malfunction which resulted in us being woken in the early hours of the morning.

Good location
Liked: Great Staff and good location. Be aware if driving Union Street inside the “bus gates” is for buses, taxis and delivery vans only, our GPS took us this way !
Disliked: Breakfast was ok - would prefer better coffee not filtered coffee.

Nice old hotel. Good value....
Liked: Hotel desk staff were very friendly and helpful. I got a good value room for one person (me) with a single (twin) type bed. The room was warm with a radiator I could turn on and off. There was a tea kettle, and tea and coffee packets (instant) provided. It was generally cozy, and pleasant to stay in the room at the end of the day. There was a desk. Wifi was a bit weak where I was located. Bathroom was large, and the shower was good with plenty of hot water. There is a full service hotel bar, and if you want exotic beer like Chicago 312 IPA it is on tap...a big surprise. Hallways have interesting photos of Aberdeen harbour lighthouse being smashed by big waves. Many different photos of outrageous waves pounding the harbour wall and engulfing the lighthouse. There is a cooked breakfast available , but it costs extra (12 Scottish poonds or so). May be worth it if you are very hungry in the morning and want to demolish a buffet style selection of eggs, bacon, porridge, black puddin' etc. Outside the hotel entrance, the Union Terrace gardens are nice, and feature a statue of Rabbie Burns. The hotel is about 12 mins walking distance to the Union Square shopping centre and the Aberdeen railway station...so that's also a good point in its favour.
Disliked: Hotel decor was a bit dated, and furnishings like the armchairs on the landings were a quite tired and faded. Carpet on stairway gets a lot of traffic on lower floors, and was thread-bare. Lift was out of order while I was there, so I had to lug my suitcases up and down the stairs. Also, someone in the room next to mine was smokin' and chokin' a lot in their room , making an unattractive stink in the hallway. I didn't like that as I thought it was a non-smoking hotel? Maybe it is, and the person next door was desperate to suck in some tobacco smoke and couldn't be bothered to go outside to fervently smoke fags in the wet Aberdeen night.
