Fabulous location - exceptional hotel...

Liked: Loved the location just a 3 minute walk to the Alamo and 5 minute walk to Riverwalk. Loved the lavish furnishings of this historic hotel. The bed was very comfortable and the AC kept the room very comfortable. The breakfast buffet selections were good and the service impeccable.
Disliked: Nothing.

Beautiful place to visit

Liked: The history of the property and the preservation of the decor is absolutely fascinating!
Disliked: The bed was quite uncomfortable. There was no give in the pillows. The curtains would not block the light well but a couple of hair clips would work fine.

Location! Location! Location!

Liked: I chose this for the idea that sightings have been reported. I thought it’d be a thrill for my family. They have a new side and the historical side. I didn’t realize this and our room was in the new side. We were allowed to walk through the old side. It was fun but no ghost sightings. The old lobby section is beautiful and we heard the creeks in the flooring and we went up and down stairs and walked the floors of the historic side. The staff at the front desk in the evening was a lot friendlier than the earlier staff. We told them of our purpose for the stay. They gave us handouts with ghost sighting stories. We went back to the room and read them. That was a great surprise. The next morning I walked around the 3rd floor by myself and it was a thrill but still no sightings. The location was excellent. We walked to the mall, we saw the Alamo. There is a great taco place around the corner. We walked to an amazing ice cream/ fudge place. While we didn’t have any encounters we had the thrill of the idea.
Disliked: We got lost getting here and our directions app kept taking us in circles. We called the hotel and they said to go to the Crockett due to construction then we will see the Menger valet. When we got to the front desk the older gentleman wasn’t very friendly. I noticed a sign saying something about the a/c and heating are basically controlled by them in the entire hotel. Our room was extremely hot. We called the front desk to see if they can turn it down and they said no. We said how hot we all were and he asked if we wanted a fan. They have a high priced breakfast on Sundays. That morning the room was very cold. After suffering through the night, I wondered why there was a major change in climate the next morning. I figured that they were making the climate comfortable for the people at the buffet. It’s open to the public and the non hotel staying guest who go there for the buffet enjoy complimentary valet. Guests pay $50 + tax.
