The Spotlight on Matrix Hotel

Modern Comfort in the Heart of Edmonton

Matrix Hotel is a sleek, contemporary hotel in downtown Edmonton, just a short stroll from major music venues and cultural hotspots. With upscale design, spacious rooms, and on-site dining, it's a go-to choice for travelers looking to blend comfort with convenience.
Located only a 4-minute walk from Corona city railway station, it's easy to get around the city whether you're catching a show or exploring local sights. Rooms include flat-screen satellite TVs, free Wi-Fi, mini-bars, and granite workspaces, making it ideal for relaxing or getting things done between events.

Why Concert-goers love it

Matrix Hotel’s location is a major win — you’re within walking distance of several downtown venues, and with public transit just minutes away, it’s easy to get to shows without the hassle of parking. The hotel’s late 12:00 PM checkout is a welcome perk after a late night out, and the atmosphere is quiet enough to wind down post-concert. The stylish vibe feels upscale without feeling stuffy — a great way to end the night on a high note.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a central base before and after a show
  • Solo travelers catching a big-name artist
  • Couples making a weekend getaway out of a concert
  • Fans who want a peaceful, upscale space to crash
  • Budget-conscious travelers who still want style and location

Food and Drink Options

Matrix Hotel offers great in-house options like Loft106 for fine dining and a Starbucks on site for that much-needed caffeine boost. The executive buffet breakfast is perfect for refueling after a night out. While 24/7 room service isn't available, the central location means you’re within walking distance of late-night eats.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself leans more chic than clubby, you’re just minutes from downtown Edmonton’s best bars, lounges, and live music spots. Prefer something low-key? The on-site cocktail bar serves up stylish drinks in a relaxed setting, ideal for a pre-show sip or a nightcap.

What People Say

Guests rave about the excellent location and modern, clean rooms. The friendly staff and comfortable beds get consistent praise, and many mention the hotel’s quiet atmosphere — even though it’s right downtown. The on-site breakfast and contemporary design are also frequent highlights in reviews.

Areas for Improvement

Parking isn’t free, and some guests wish the hotel offered more extensive late-night dining or full room service. That said, most agree these are small trade-offs for the great location and amenities.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to a show in Edmonton and want a stylish, centrally located hotel with great vibes and easy access to venues, Matrix Hotel is a top pick.

Not worth the price

Liked: The main areas were pretty.
Disliked: You have to pay for the breakfast but the buffet is not worth the money. I've had better at smittys. The rooms are dated, only 2 small pillows for a king bed, no microwave. Have to pay $30 a night for parking which is ridiculous. None of it is worth the exorbitant amount of money they're charging.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Stephen Mon, 31 March 2025

Disappointing.

Liked: The location remains a good jumping off point for downtown Edmonton Work. For the most part the hotel is clean.
Disliked: The hotel was loud. One night, a party raged next to us until 4:30 in the morning. Despite many phone calls to the front desk, the party continued. It wasn't until we got out of bed, and went down to the lobby to complain that the hotel finally took action. The next night, starting around 5 am, a dog was barking (its head off), keeping us awake until morning. We called the desk 3 times trying to get action, but nobody answered. When I raised this issue with the manager the following morning, I was told, "We're a pet-friendly hotel." I suppose they are not a guest-friendly hotel anymore. Often, hoteliers can't control what happens in their rooms, but they can control how they address these challenges with their guests. In this case, it was very poor. In general, I was very disappointed with the hotel. I have stayed at the Matrix 25-30 times over the last decade while doing work in the city. It was always a quiet, comfortable venue. The lounge's transformation into a cafeteria-feeling room is particularly disappointing. The sheets had holes in them, the building felt tired and run down despite recent renovations. I have recommended the Matrix to dozens of people over the years, and I won't do that any longer. This was likely my last stay in a formally favourite hotel; I'll be looking for new digs for my work in YEG.
