Perfect place for an incredible...

Liked: The location was stunning, situated right on the river, the hotel was well laid out with severalSmaller rooms to sit in, while chatting and having a drink, the bedrooms were amazing, we booked the deluxe doubles, they overlooked the river and gardens, beautifully furnished, proper coffee with fresh milk in the fridge and complimentary water and a decanter with gin, tonic in the fridge. Evening meal was delicious and the staff while attentive did not intrude, they were friendly and polite. I would definitely revisit and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
Disliked: There was nothing to dislike

Liked: Beds, towels, roomBreakfastLocation
Disliked: Restaurant service not good or attentive, as young staff appeared untrained. Food very expensive. Plaice served solo - no potatoes or veg/salad. Fluffy napkins left white bobbles all over our dark clothes which were difficult to remove, but staff not concerned. Lounge cosy in sunshine, but very cold in evening for after dinner coffee.

Liked: I have stayed here before and it was a favourite with my parents, too. Love the comfortable room, the food, the history, the proximity of the river, the walks, the friendly staff and the fact I could bring my dog.
Disliked: The room was a little dark. On our walk up river there was a shoot taking place: my dog is gun shy so we had to turn back. If I come again it will have to be out of the shooting season!

A lovely break from the...

Liked: Room was fab, view and facilities.
Disliked: Slightly disappointed in our Sunday lunch - lot of beef fat served on the plate which we felt unnecessary. Also lack of care in serving our evening snack of focaccia bread. One of the restaurant managers was also coughing a lot and quite sweary.
