Hotel Description
As part of our continued commitment to enhance our property and service we are currently in the process of renovating our rooms and public areas due for completion spring 2024. During the renovation period work will commence daily from 9.00am to 5.00pm. Just a 10-minute drive from Colchester's historic city center the Marks Tey Hotel offers free WiFi access and free private parking. Guests have free access to the leisure club and there is also an on-site restaurant. The Lifestyle Health & Leisure Club is complimentary to residents during their stay and facilities include a 15-yard indoor swimming pool and steam and sauna rooms fully air-conditioned gymnasium and 2 outdoor tennis courts. Colchester Zoo is within a 10-minute drive of the hotel and the Tiptree Jam Factory can be reached after 20 minutes' drive. Scenic walks can be enjoyed in Constable Country also just a 20-minute drive away. Flatford Mill is a 30-minute car journey away.

A great place for a...

Liked: Very comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. Peaceful. Reception staff incredibly helpful.
Disliked: Breakfast was lovely but expensive.

Unexpectedly quite lovely

Liked: The hotel exterior doesn't really do the hotel justice. The reception area and rooms are very smart and comfortable indeed.. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We arrived too early for check in but we were able to store our bags until we came back later (after midnight) to check in.

Great staff, mediocre experience

Liked: The staff were all great, friendly and helpful.
Disliked: Our room faced a bunch of AC units on a perpendicular building that annoyingly hummed all night. Breakfast was basic with not much choice, and charging extra for parking at a hotel you’d most likely get to by car feels cheeky. Overall, it just didn’t meet the quality suggested by the Marriott name.
