Modern comfort meets military heritage at the Marines' Memorial Club & Hotel Union Square, a unique and thoughtfully preserved hotel just a 5-minute walk from Union Square. Housed in a historic building, this hotel blends classic San Francisco elegance with meaningful tributes to U.S. veterans. With spacious rooms, free WiFi, and a rooftop restaurant, it’s a solid choice for concert-goers looking for both convenience and character.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’re just a short stroll from venues around Union Square and the Powell Street BART station—perfect for catching shows across the city or getting to and from San Francisco International Airport with ease. The hotel’s central location means late-night eats and rideshares are always close by. Plus, the 12:00 pm checkout gives you extra time to recover after a late night of music.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a memorable weekend base
  • Solo travelers chasing a dream concert
  • Couples on a music-and-romance getaway
  • Fans who value quiet after the encore
  • Budget-conscious travelers seeking comfort and location without luxury pricing

Food and Drink Options

Chesty’s Bar and Grill offers on-site dining and drinks, with a rooftop view that’s hard to beat. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the surrounding area is packed with late-night food options within walking distance. Breakfast is available—ideal for those slow-moving mornings after a big night out.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself doesn't host live music, it’s surrounded by some of San Francisco’s best bars, clubs, and lounges. Whether you're into craft cocktails, dive bars, or dancing 'til 2am, you’re in the right neighborhood. Chesty’s Bar is a great spot for a quieter nightcap with a touch of history.

What People Say

Guests rave about the hotel’s friendly staff, clean and spacious rooms, and the unique military museum atmosphere. The rooftop restaurant earns high marks for both its food and city views. Reviewers also appreciate the hotel's central location and value, especially for downtown San Francisco.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the decor feels a bit dated, though many see it as part of the hotel’s charm. Because of its location and historic status, there’s no air conditioning in every room—but the cool San Francisco nights usually make that a non-issue.

The Bottom Line

With its unbeatable location, quiet comfort, and rooftop views, Marines' Memorial Club & Hotel Union Square is a top pick for concert-goers who want to stay close to the music without losing sight of classic San Francisco charm.

Delightful stay in a well...

Liked: The room was very comfortable and well equipped. I particularly enjoyed the happy hour with complimentary drinks in the Chesty bar and restaurant. I had appetizers too while enjoying the very nice view over the city. Throughout the hotel the staff aims to please. They are attentive and polite; I never had to wait for assistance. I also enjoyed seeing all the military regalia, photographs, and paintings throughout the hotel. It was like visiting a museum.
Disliked: No USB port in my guest room.
