Very disappointed after having stayed...

Liked: The staff on the whole were very pleasant and courteous. The lady on reception this morning seemed a little out of sorts. Location was good
Disliked: The lift not working in the annex and it being a maze to get to our room. There was only one lift working in the main hotel also. The bar area and restaurant are soulless in the evening. The shower was tiny bit with a huge shower head so no way of not getting totally soaked. The shower also had mould and mildew around the edges. The plug in the basin didn’t work

Restful stay in a cell!

Liked: The property was unique, clean, well designed, all the essentials you would need.Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Disliked: Feather pillows, however these were changed very quickly as I am allergic to them. Our room was right by the noisy metal staircase which was used throughout the day and night.

Not the luxury I was...

Liked: The location was very central.
Disliked: So so so disaapointed. Upon arrival, the Reception staff were unwelcoming and demanded payment for the room straight away. Corridors were tired and dated and once we got to the room we were met with an unclean, dated room complete with someone elses contact lenses that had been left on a sidetable, dirty bathroom, smeared mirror, sticky tacky surfaces, the list goes on..Cleanliness issues aside, the room was quite basic and it did not feel like a luxury hotel. For the £369 price tag, these rooms need some serious attention. Called to Reception and was told we could switch to another room but again although cleaner, it was still quite basic with dated decor so we decided to see if we could find somewhere else to stay. Managed to get a room at the Marriot Courtyard a couple of minutes away and we so happy we made the switch. We had travelled over 3 hours to stay at this much hyped hotel and it really didn't meet expectations in anyway. So I suppose my advice is that unless the USP of staying in a former prision is greater than a need for luxury at the prices they are charging, book a room at the Marriot instead! There may now be a generic response incoming from the Hotel explaining how sorry they are that my experience wasn't up to standard but havent we all seen this before? Not true compensation for the dissapointment and disruption to our trip just how sorry they are and how they will look into the issues I have raised blah blah blah....

Liked: Situation and main hotel
Disliked: The room was a little tired and shabby in places. Nowhere to hang coats, not enough or well placed sockets.
