The Spotlight on Malmaison Newcastle

Stylish, mood-lit comfort on Newcastle's iconic Quayside

Modern and dramatic, Malmaison Newcastle is a 4-star boutique hotel nestled along the River Tyne in the heart of the city's vibrant Quayside. Housed in a beautifully converted warehouse, the hotel blends rich velvets, deep purples, and bold design to create a moody, luxurious vibe — perfect for unwinding after a high-energy night out. With free WiFi, a gym, and rooms boasting river views and satellite TVs, it's a sleek base for music lovers exploring Newcastle’s buzzing live scene.

Why Concert-goers love it

It’s just a short stroll across the Gateshead Millennium Bridge to some of the city’s top venues. After the show, you’re close enough to walk back, avoiding late-night taxi chaos. The atmosphere is relaxed yet stylish, ideal for winding down after a gig. Check-in starts at 15:00, giving you ample time to freshen up before heading out, and check-out is a forgiving 11:00 the next day — just enough time for a lie-in and a late breakfast.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a stylish base close to nightlife
  • Solo travelers chasing bucket-list gigs with a touch of luxury
  • Couples making a weekend of it with riverside views
  • Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space in a moody, plush setting
  • Budget-conscious music fans who still want boutique charm

Food and Drink Options

The on-site brasserie serves up locally sourced dishes in a stylish setting, and the hotel’s bar offers cocktails and fine wines with river views. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the location means you're steps from Quayside eateries that stay open late. Breakfast is available — perfect for those slow mornings after a big night.

Nightlife Options

You're in one of Newcastle’s liveliest spots, with bars, lounges, and clubs all within walking distance. The hotel bar itself features a chill vibe and creative cocktails — a great spot for pre-show drinks or a relaxed nightcap.

What People Say

Guests love the unique building and stylish interiors, with many praising the river views and comfy beds. The location is consistently rated as ideal for exploring Newcastle’s nightlife and music venues. Staff are described as friendly and helpful, adding to the relaxed yet upscale experience.

Areas for Improvement

Due to ongoing external decorating work, the façade may be less photogenic than usual — but it’s all in the name of upkeep. Some guests note that Quayside weekends can get lively, so light sleepers might want to pack earplugs.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting boutique comfort, riverside views, and walkable nightlife, Malmaison Newcastle hits all the right notes.

Great trip to a great...

Liked: Great hotel in a good location. You can walk almost everywhere in 15 to 20 minutes. Close to many restaurants and pubs. The room was large, and we had a great view of the river. Nice bathroom with a great shower. There is plenty of hot water and pressure. We ate at the restaurant and the lounge. Drinks were good and food was very good. All staff very friendly. I highly recommend it.
Disliked: Only a small complaint was no electrical outlets near the bed.

Liked: We've stayed several times at the Mal and have never been disappointed. From the very friendly greeting by Dave on reception, we arrived at just after 2pm and we were told that our room was ready early which is always a great bonus so we checked in and went up. We had the deluxe room with bridge view, as we've had a few times before, and the view is just awesome. It has been around 9 years since we last stayed here and we loved the new decor in the room. Brighter and more colourful while still feeling very spacious, excellent options for coffee with the Nespresso machine aswell as coffee bags and tea facilities and even hot chocolate. Another bonus was the tv channel options, sky tv Premier league aswell as other sky tv channels. First time we've experienced that in any Hotel, it's just not expected! We would say in honesty that the tv was maybe a little small for the room size but only a very minor point. Breakfast was very well appointed with the options of buffet style continental breakfast and/or cooked breakfast. We had the full English, toast, croissants, coffees, juices and bacon muffins which were deliciously faultless! Special mention to Tessie or Jessie who was bright and had a lovely welcoming energy, and a very lovely Northern Irish accent. She was fantastic! Nothing was any trouble. We enjoyed our stay very much, and if anything we reminded ourselves of why we chose Malmaison again. Brilliant Hotel!!
