Staff are great but overall...

Liked: The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Everyone was approachable and lovely. The property was easy to find with ample parking. We did not have a chance to explore much outside as it was chucking it down with rain during our stay but the grounds offer a great deal I would say.
Disliked: The property is currently undergoing some needed renovation. It was clear that there are some issues with damp and mould. Though our room was clean our bathroom did have signs of mould. Currently website photos may not be up to date.

Just an overnight stay, but...

Liked: Room (I think it was 14?) was nice, although tv perhaps a bit small by modern standards. Good lighting for reading in bed - thankyou! Public rooms and front gardens very nice; the website showed more extensive grounds behind the hotel, but we had an evening commitment and a fairly early departure, so didn't get to look! Breakfast was fine and nicely served at table by friendly staff. Haddington is a nice small town with clearly a lot of history around the town and general region. I would like to come back to this area at some point, and this feels like a good base.
Disliked: Maybe a bigger bathroom would be nice, but the one we had was perfectly adequate and the electric shower was ok. Nothing else not to like.

Liked: David & Matthew, were excellent hosts, very friendly & welcoming. They went above and beyond, when we slept in for breakfast and made sure we still got looked after .
Disliked: The property is a little outdated, needing some tlc, It’s a beautiful building, but could do with some maintenance.

All the positives made for...

Liked: Manager and staff very friendly and helpful, absolutely nothing a problem! Bedroom cosy and clean. Breakfast included in price, plenty on offer. Meal in restaurant - had starter and sweet - both delicious! Walking distance to town and nice riverside walk. Booked this hotel to attend an event which was being held in one of hotel function rooms.
Disliked: Pathway and kerb appeal a bit off putting, picture on website did not reflect what we were expecting. Building was a little tired looking, to be honest, but it was not the best time of year to be visiting anywhere. (happy enough once inside and settled) Bathroom was very cold, especially tiled floor, small wall heater helped a little.
