The Spotlight on Maes Manor Country Hotel

Historic Country Charm Meets Concert-Ready Comfort

Set on a hilltop surrounded by 9 acres of landscaped gardens and forest, Maes Manor Country Hotel offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of Blackwood. Originally built in 1892, this beautifully refurbished manor blends traditional elegance with modern comfort. With sweeping views over the valley and easy access to the M4, it’s a smart choice for music fans heading to venues in Newport, Cardiff, or the surrounding area.

Why Concert-goers love it

You're just a short drive from some of South Wales’ best concert and festival locations, while being far enough away to unwind in complete peace. The quiet countryside setting makes it ideal for post-show recovery, and the hotel’s flexible check-in from 15:00 gives you time to settle in before the night begins. While public transport is limited in this semi-rural spot, having a car makes getting to shows and back easy.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends looking for a peaceful base with space to hang out
Solo travelers chasing a once-in-a-lifetime gig, with a quiet place to recharge
Couples enjoying a romantic concert weekend and countryside views
Fans wanting a quieter post-concert recovery space
Budget-conscious music fans who want value away from big-city prices

Food and Drink Options

Maes Manor serves up classic British fare in its on-site restaurant, though late-night dining is limited—so it’s best to plan ahead after a show. While there's no 24/7 room service, you can request late check-in and enjoy a hearty breakfast the next morning to recover. Several local pubs and cafes are a short drive away, offering casual dining options.

Nightlife Options

This isn’t a party hotel—but that’s part of the appeal. While there’s no on-site live music, the hotel bar is a cozy spot for a nightcap featuring local Welsh spirits. If you’re up for it, you’ll find livelier pubs and clubs in nearby Blackwood or Caerphilly.

What People Say

Guests rave about the stunning views, peaceful location, and the manor’s character-filled interiors. Many highlight the friendly staff, clean rooms, and the relaxing atmosphere—perfect for those looking to escape the crowds after a high-energy night out.

Areas for Improvement

The rural setting means late-night food or transport options are limited, so it’s best to plan rides and meals in advance. Some guests mention slightly dated décor in parts of the manor, but most agree it adds to the charm.

The Bottom Line

For concert-goers wanting to pair their music experience with a relaxing countryside stay, Maes Manor Country Hotel delivers peaceful charm just a short drive from South Wales’ top venues.

Dissappointed

Liked: The Staff were amazing Our night time and cooked breakfast meal was good.
Disliked: The room smelt like stale urine .The bed had a plastic mattress protecter under the sheet .The bottom sheet was too small and didn't cover the bed.Mould in the bathroom.Breakfast is from 8am to 9 30 am we were there at 8am.No one around had to go to front destination to ask for coffee and is someone setting up the Continental Breakfast table.Continental Breakfast table Boxes of opened cereal with loaves of opened bread dumped into a basket. The bread felt stale. We chose not to have toast as You don't know who's hands have been in the bread packet.Fresh fruit was old no yoghurt which was stated on the Continental menu. The room were tired and dirty with dead flys on the window seal through out the hotel. We have been travelling for 6 weeks in the UK and this was the worst hotel I've ever been in and paid alot more to stay here. Yes its a stunning building from the out side and as you walk into reception and bar area .That's it.Very tired and dated.

Very over priced

Liked: Staff were helpful overall
Disliked: Far too expensive for what I received. There was a wedding on so sleep was difficult (I wouldn't have minded this if the price was reasonable). Also everything in the room (drawers, TV etc) were in poor condition. The blinds were also inadequate for blocking out light, making sleep even more difficult. Breakfast was poor.
