The Spotlight on Madame Isabelle's House

Quirky, Cozy, and Steps from the French Quarter Beat

Madame Isabelle's House is a charming, character-filled hostel tucked into a historic building in the heart of New Orleans. Just a short walk from the edge of the French Quarter, this laid-back spot blends vintage vibes with social backpacker energy. With shared and private room options, free WiFi, and a welcoming atmosphere, it's an ideal home base for music lovers who want to stay close to the action without blowing their budget.

Why Concert-goers love it

Located less than a mile from major local landmarks like St. Louis Cathedral and St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, Madame Isabelle's puts you within easy walking distance of many of New Orleans' most iconic venues. The hostel's location on a quieter residential street means you can still get a good night's sleep after a high-energy show. With flexible common areas and a shared kitchen, it's easy to wind down or meet fellow music fans. Late-night rideshare access is excellent, making it easy to get back from a show.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a social, budget-friendly base
  • Solo travelers chasing a memorable live set or festival
  • Couples making a romantic weekend of it
  • Fans who want a quiet place to chill after a gig
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want easy access to venues

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no restaurant on-site, the fully stocked shared kitchen gives you the freedom to whip up a late-night snack. You're also just blocks from countless eateries in the French Quarter, from 24/7 diners to upscale Creole cuisine. Breakfast isn't provided, but coffee and tea are usually available in the kitchen for a casual start to your day.

Nightlife Options

You're steps away from the buzzing nightlife scene of Frenchmen Street and Bourbon Street, where live jazz, blues, and funk spill out of every doorway. Prefer to keep it low-key? The hostel’s cozy courtyard is a great place to share a drink and stories with fellow travelers before or after a show.

What People Say

Guests love the friendly, social vibe without it feeling like a party hostel. Many highlight the excellent location, clean facilities, and the charm of the old building. The staff receives praise for being welcoming and helpful, especially with local recommendations. Travelers also appreciate the value for money and the opportunity to meet like-minded adventurers.

Areas for Improvement

Because it’s a hostel, private rooms and bathrooms are limited, so it’s best to book early if you want more privacy. Some guests note that the stairs can be a bit steep and the building has that classic New Orleans creaky-floorboard vibe—but that’s part of the charm!

The Bottom Line

If you're looking for a budget-friendly, social stay close to New Orleans' best music venues, Madame Isabelle's House hits all the right notes.

Perfect hostel environment, clean space,...

Liked: Mostly everything! Dorms were clean. Loved the bedroom curtains for privacy. Breakfast was good. Fully decked kitchen for cooking. Always some extra food being shared, making it feel like a family setting. Everyone is a traveller, including staff, which adds to conversations being super interesting.
Disliked: Door lock for the bathroom. If someone didn’t knock and pulled on it, they could still get through with partially opening it, until it’s obvious that someone is in there. I experienced it whilst I was in the bathroom. I don’t quite like cats, but if you do, then there are a couple.

Recommended!!

Liked: Perfect place to connect with the local vibe! You can meet so many nice people including the staff they have free events everyday that include taking you to a pub crawl or making dinner for you:). It was my first time staying in a hostel and this one was perfect!
Disliked: The rooms had a bit of a musky smell but I understand that considering it is a lot of people in a room.

The environment was very clean...

Liked: Breakfast was simple but satisfying. It included a ham and egg toast, cereal with milk, a fresh apple, and a cup of coffee. Everything was straightforward, freshly prepared, and gave a cozy, homestyle feeling. A nice way to start the day!
Disliked: I did not expect that a computer charging cable would be considered such an important item, but unfortunately mine was stolen and I couldn’t get it back. This caused a lot of inconvenience during my stay. I really hope the management can improve security and remind guests to take extra care of their belongings.

Liked: Amazing atmosphere and the room are spacious and clean. The stuff is nice and the breakfast was ok and the breakfast time was long (till 11am). There is room to sit around and do board games and they do nice eventsAnd they had a free sunscreen display.
Disliked: 8$ for doing laundry is a bit pricey but at least you can do laundry there. There are cats around in the Hostel( nice ones) but they might be an issue for people with allergies.
