A Regency house overlooking Ullswater the Macdonald Leeming House has an award-winning restaurant and views of the Cumbrian Fells. It is a 15-minute drive from the M6 motorway. The bedrooms with attached bathroom are decorated in a traditional style and all have flat-screen TVs and seating areas. Some rooms have balconies with lake views. The Regency Restaurant serves modern British cuisine. The conservatory and terrace offer a more relaxed setting for informal lunches and dinners. The hotel has 22 acres of grounds and offers croquet on the lawn and private fishing on the river. Indoors there is a drawing room library and sitting room with log fires in the winter. Very disappointing for the extremely...

Liked: The hotel is set in the most wonderful grounds and landscape.
Disliked: The property itself is very very dated and not well kept. Extremely overpriced for the level of cleanliness and facilities within the room we stayed in. For the price I was expecting some form of pampering within the room however the toiletries were poor along with the very very bog standard tea and coffee availability which was akin to staying in a cheap roadside motorway motel. We were left wanting for a good view whilst using the balcony because the planting of mature trees blocked the landscape. The staff were polite however we did have an experience at dinner which could have been filmed for a faulty towers sketch!

Liked: The lake views were fantastic can’t beat itStaff were lovely
Disliked: Dirty,dusty, tired, carpets need a good clean and use an upright vacuum cleaner a Henry won’t pick up the dog hair, more thought to maintenance Shower was Luke warm Sink cold water was warm (needs to be looked at )Balcony rotten not pleasant to see when you have views like thatBreakfast: quality of food 1 star (sorry)Cheapest products, peanut butter sunpat, butter (flora) eggs free range but tasteless, sausages poor bacon ok, Disappointing it could be a fantastic place but lack of investment love and attention

Lovely few days rest

Liked: Peace and quiet, good service,clean , good room preparation. Great views beautiful gardens good breakfasts
Disliked: Some of the decor a little tired

A wonderful house in a...

Liked: Beautiful house in a stunning location. Lovely staff with one exception. Fantastic food from the chefs but very expensive. Great wine list. Breakfast extras were poor for the quality of the hotel eg orange juice, jams, bread etc. Charging a supplement for breakfast dishes was unnecessary given the cost of BnB.
Disliked: See above. One waitress was curt when asked for a variation to a breakfast dish.

Great hotel badly served by...

Liked: Great setting, rooms, people.One of my very favourite UK hotels, 3rd visit
Disliked: AI agent emails were poorDinner was just a bit too expensive Breakfast surcharge pricing (£6 rxtra for avocado instead of full cooked breakfast?) was irritating All the bad stuff seemed to be corporate Macdonalds and out of the control of local management
