The Spotlight on Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Resort

Highland Hideaway with a Scenic Soundtrack

Modern comfort meets natural beauty at the Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Resort, a peaceful 4-star retreat nestled on the shores of Loch Ard, just 6 miles from Ben Lomond. Surrounded by the majestic Trossachs, this hotel offers a tranquil atmosphere with cozy rooms, many featuring private balconies and loch views. Whether you're winding down from a high-energy gig or looking to recharge before the next show, this spot blends luxury and calm in the heart of nature.

Why Concert-goers love it

Concert-goers who want to swap city buzz for loch-side serenity will love the quiet location—far from the noise, yet close enough for a weekend gig adventure. With a 3pm check-in and 11am check-out, there's flexibility for late-night arrivals or slow mornings. The peaceful setting is ideal for decompressing post-concert, and on-site spa treatments are a bonus for tired dancing feet. While it's not in a city center, it's a fantastic option for those attending outdoor festivals or gigs in nearby historic venues.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends enjoying a weekend of music and nature
  • Solo travelers seeking calm after a bucket-list show
  • Couples looking to pair concerts with romantic scenery
  • Fans needing a quiet post-concert recovery space
  • Budget-conscious music fans who value experience over location

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Garden Restaurant serves up locally sourced dishes with sweeping views of the hills and loch—ideal for refueling. The relaxed lounge bar offers lighter meals and afternoon teas, perfect for a light bite after a show. While there's no mention of 24/7 room service, the focus here is on quality over late-night quantity, and the hearty breakfasts are well-timed for those sleeping in.

Nightlife Options

This isn’t a party hotel, but its selection of fine wines and whiskeys makes it a cozy, grown-up way to end your evening. For those wanting more action, nearby Aberfoyle has traditional pubs, and the natural setting makes a nightcap under the stars surprisingly satisfying.

What People Say

Guests consistently praise the stunning views, relaxing atmosphere, and high-quality spa. Many love the peaceful location and say it's a great way to unwind after busy events. The staff earn high marks for friendliness and helpfulness, and the rooms are described as comfortable and well-appointed.

Areas for Improvement

Because of its remote location, getting here without a car can be tricky—so plan transport in advance. Some guests mention that the décor is a little traditional, but most agree the setting makes up for it. Wi-Fi can be spotty in some areas, but hey, maybe that’s a good excuse to unplug after the encore.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking to swap the mosh pit for mountains and trade noise for nature, Macdonald Forest Hills Hotel & Resort is a perfect post-concert escape.

Lovely place with a stunning...

Liked: Location, towels, bedding, rooms are large !
Disliked: There was no fridge in our room—I’d booked a classic double. The air felt stiff, and while I get that it’s Scotland and there’s no air con, opening the windows wasn’t really an option either, thanks to the midges. At night, the room got either too hot or a bit chilly, partly because of the heavy, thick blankets and the lack of airflow. At breakfast, the staff didn’t explain the menu—or maybe didn’t quite know how to—as there was an extra-charge section that made things a bit confusing. That said, the room itself was lovely—spacious, with a great bed and a really comfy mattress.A wee bit more liveliness from the staff or a touch of atmosphere in the bar areas would’ve added some soul or quirk. As it was, it all felt a little too serious and quiet.
