Macdonald Cardrona Hotel Golf & Spa

Would not return.

Liked: Rooms are big, shower very powerful and views across golf course lovely.
Disliked: Breakfast was chaotic. Stayed three nights- no Vegan sausages on any of the three days- breakfast served without them with no apology until challenged, left sitting for 20 minutes waiting for them on one morning only to eventaully be told they didn't have any, various other items either unavailable or put out when not edible- frozen Croissants, burnt baked beans, cold mushrooms, scrambled eggs were black, cold flasks of coffee, yogurt contaminated by other products for example. Staff clearly not trained to cope with the number of guests or the various issues around breakfast products. Had to ask for bread, glasses (and then clean glasses) pastries only available one morning out of three. Asked for poached egg and was served fried egg. Bedroom & bathroom very tired- headboard flaking...mould in shower, chips in bath, stained carpets etc.

Beautiful Setting

Liked: Spacious room with a lovely view, good food and friendly staff.
Disliked: It was a bit tired, the room could have done with a lick of paint, new carpet and curtains which were stained and the armchairs were very worn.

Beautiful on outside, horrendous chaos...

Liked: The hotel is in brutal surroundings and a great location that felt comfortable in appearance The leisure centre staff were friendly and chatty and supportive with using lockers etc
Disliked: The sofa bed for daughter was horrendous to say the least, it was uneven and you could feel every slate plank of the bed in your back. The breakfast experience was the worst I’ve ever seen. Waited 30 mins for someone to seat us, and then there was no food available. Lots of complaints that I felt for the manager, but sadly that’s what comes with such poor service.There was never any staff available on reception either.He was willing to refund the breakfast, but I’d have rather have had a breakfast. They charge £18 a head, and the service, staff and no food was horrendous which really dampened the stayWe used the health club, the cleanliness was awful in changing rooms, the steam room was also closed. I’m not sure how the hotel can charge £136 a night in all honesty

Nice to get away

Liked: I took my mum away for a little treat the views were lovely and we were excited to use the leisure facilities but the lift was broken and the sauna was out of use the pool was so cold too. My mum has bone issues so going up and down the stairs was not easy for her nor was the cold pool.

Brilliant hotel, gorgeous location

Liked: We had a lovely, big spacious room with gorgeous views! The staff were super friendly, the breakfast was delicious and as i was really impressed with the gluten free set up for breakfast as sometimes there’s not too much choice for me, but here I was well catered for. The spa isn’t set up for a spa day vibe (in my opinion) but was perfect for us as we just wanted a swim and sauna before heading off.

Disliked: Hit & Miss service in the restaurant.The breakfast buffet was rather tired and ran out of yogurt on one of the mornings.
