Disappointing

Very traditional hotel, good location,...

Disliked: Unable to charge anything to the room without having already set up a charge using my credit card via Reception. I only learned this when I tried to charge a lunch to my room, at which point I was told that I couldn't and would have to go to Reception and get my card charged - whilst holding my room key card. On arrival at Reception I asked them to enable my card, at which point I was told that I would need to go and get my own credit card to put a charge on the room. Which seems to negate the whole process. And my room being at the opposite end of the hotel, I was faced with a long walk to fetch my card, return to reception, and then back to my room to replace my card. It would have been a much better customer experience if this were explained by staff on arrival at the hotel.

Liked: Breakfast, restaurant, bar. Liked how they catered for us having a dog.Staff were excellent and very friendly. Damien in the bar especially helpful.
Disliked: Room was a bit basic, clean but could do with a spruce up window wouldn't open especially when it was very hot during our stay.

To be or not to...

Liked: Parking, grounds, bar terrace, shower, fridge (although empty), dog friendly, very nice staff.
Disliked: Bed sloped backwards towards headboard, air-conditioning very noisy and inefficient, bar food average quality at best and certainly not value for money. No comp bottled water in the room. Riding on the Macdonald reputation of old. Whole place looks like it needs a makeover.
