The Spotlight on Lowell Hotel

Classic Elegance Meets Concert Convenience in NYC

Located in the heart of Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the Lowell Hotel blends timeless luxury with a quiet, residential atmosphere—just a stone’s throw from Central Park, Madison Avenue, and some of NYC’s most iconic music venues. Housed in a historic 17-story building dating back to 1927, the Lowell offers a refined escape with marble bathrooms, wood-burning fireplaces, and leafy terraces overlooking the city skyline.

Why Concert-goers love it

For music fans craving serenity after a big night out, the Lowell’s peaceful setting on a tree-lined street is a dream. It’s just under a mile from Carnegie Hall and walking distance to subway lines for late-night returns from bigger arenas. With a 3:00 PM check-in and generous 12:00 PM checkout, guests have flexibility to rest and recover. The quiet Club Room and elegant suites offer a calm, post-concert retreat.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends wanting a stylish base near Central Park
  • Solo travelers seeing a bucket-list artist at Lincoln Center or Carnegie Hall
  • Couples on a romantic, music-filled weekend
  • Fans looking for a serene recovery space after the encore
  • Luxury-focused music lovers who appreciate refined surroundings

Food and Drink Options

The Lowell delivers on dining with options curated by renowned restaurateur Charles Masson. Majorelle serves seasonal French-Mediterranean fare, while Jacques Bar offers intimate cocktails. Guests can enjoy breakfast and afternoon tea in the Pembroke Room—even after a late night. While 24/7 room service isn’t available, the hotel’s central location puts a variety of upscale eateries and casual bites within easy walking distance.

Nightlife Options

While the hotel itself leans toward quiet sophistication rather than high-energy nightlife, you’re minutes from the buzz of Midtown and the Upper West Side. Nearby lounges, jazz bars, and classic NYC cocktail spots are all within reach. Jacques Bar on site is perfect for a nightcap in a plush, candlelit setting.

What People Say

Guests rave about the exceptional service, immaculate rooms, and the feeling of staying in a private residence rather than a bustling hotel. Many highlight the peaceful vibe and convenient access to shopping, dining, and cultural landmarks. The fireplaces and terraces are standout features for those seeking a cozy, luxurious stay.

Areas for Improvement

This is not a budget option—so if you're looking to save on accommodations, the Lowell may not be the best fit. Some guests note that the classic decor may not appeal to those who prefer ultra-modern style. Also, while the atmosphere is serene, it may feel a bit too quiet for travelers wanting a more lively scene on-site.

The Bottom Line

If you're a concert-goer who values luxury, privacy, and prime location near NYC’s top music venues, the Lowell Hotel is a refined retreat that hits all the right notes.

Not a 5 star hotel

Liked: This property charges gratuity on a free breakfast (which they later said is capped as a credit), which I found tacky considering the very high price of the rooms. Poor communication with front desk and between members of staff. Paid for two expensive rooms for a weekend and had expectations of a luxury stay, was not that. Instant coffee in the rooms. 3 credit card holds for two rooms, why?
Disliked: Rooms not up-to-date (considering price)

My favorite

Liked: The staff was incredible! I’ve never been so taken care of. I was truly sad to leave. The hotel was awesome, but what truly made it was the people who worked there. Every single one of them including the bar tender and hosts at the bar next door and are all time fave, Jesus!!! They all took such pride in the hotel and their jobs there. I told them they were stuck with me for life, because I’m never staying anywhere else.🤣 I felt like I had these awesome big brothers by the time I left. I can’t say enough about what an impression they made on us. Jesus we miss you and we will be back soon!!!
Disliked: Nothing. The people made it perfect. If I had to say anything I wish they had smart tvs so I could watch Netflix or Hulu. But that’s just me being spoiled! I really wouldn’t change a thing.

We will be coming back!...

Liked: The staff is just as good as a Four Seasons. Caring, patient, up-beat, fun. Also they have all the amenities of a 5-star hotel, but in a boutique package.
Disliked: Hallways are cramped and elevators miniscule, but it’s an old building
