Comfortable stay for a good...
Liked: Very friendly check in staff, comfortable and clean room. Location was about 12 minutes walk from nearest tube/train stations. Good value for money by London standards.
Disliked: Bathroom was very small and the lighting in that room was not great.

Great value for money
Liked: Stayed at the London Star a few times this year as I have been working in the area. Very happy with all of my stays! Good location within walking distance of either the Elizabeth or Mildmay (Overground) tube lines. Friendly staff and manager always made me feel welcome. Rooms always clean and comfortable. Noticed on my last stay that they had provided a new Fridge and Fan which were required in the hot weather!
Disliked: Nothing

Good place to stay in...
Liked: I had a nice stay in this hotel. Sure, it is a bit worn out, but overall quite comfortable.
Disliked: There was no air conditioning in the room, so during hot weather it was very stuffy

Disappointing and quite possibly the...
Liked: Staff was friendly.
Disliked: The photos are misleading - not sure where they pulled these from at my room was old and worn down, musty and has no air conditioning. My room reached 32-34 degrees Celsius over my stay. It was actually detrimental to my health to stay here. A fan was provided but just blew the hot air around. With the window open, the smoke smell from the hookah bar below came in. The room was so hot that that fridge did not work. No air conditioning or breakfast that was advertised.

Good Value - just needs...
Liked: We booked a triple room but ended up with a family room accessed slightly offset from the main entrance. The room was good, plenty of space a decent bathroom and much needed airconditioning. It hard a large TV if you need one. I was a little concerned by some reviews but the staff were very pleasant, the room was good value and all that we needed for the 2 nights. The area was nice enough and good access for tubes and buses in to town. Don't be put off about comments about Shisha's - just people doing what they do in that area, a bit like us moaning about Irish pubs in Spain.
Disliked: There were a few state of repair issues, mainly the door handle on the batheroom. Breakfast would be an added bonus too but we went round to the Asda cafe (literally just round the corner) which was fine.
