Beautiful grounds but service very...

Liked: The grounds are beautiful and the room (junior suite) was also pretty, spacious and comfortable.
Disliked: The service was so slow. The hotel was understaffed the whole weekend and every part of service from check in to check out was slow and needed troubleshooting.Breakfast was basic but good (self-serve buffet); cutlery was not at the tables nor placed out for hotel guests or by the food so the whole room spent time waiting to eat.The property was extremely quiet and isolated at night - it was hard to find any hotel staff including at the front desk or security room to check in and collect our bags from the luggage storage room; this took our group additional trips up and down the hotel stairs.General Manager on arrival was too abrupt and everything felt a little too hard during our stay!

Beautiful but not perfect.

Liked: The hotel was beautiful, food was delicious and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Our suite was large, light and had potential to be perfect.
Disliked: We stayed on the final night of our honeymoon and some elements of the suite were very tired, the cushions on the bed were threadbare and the curtains looked as though a cat had been attacking them. There was facilities for a hot drink, but no milk and only 2 two bags.

Beautiful Hotel but some issues

Liked: The hotel itself is beautiful and beautifully decorated. The bedrooms, hallways and communal rooms are lovely and it is wonderful to be in them. The location is lovely and the picturesque River Wye is a 5 minute walk away.
Disliked: The service is really very poor, all our food took a long time to come which spoilt the evening meal. Some dishes were also overcooked or hurriedly prepared and we were told this was due to kitchen staff shortages. What staff there were, were very inexperienced and had little knowledge of the hotel or hospitality. The manager was not very friendly. This would be a really lovely hotel if they could sort out these issues.

Peaceful quality room

Liked: Location- staff were helpful and hardworking- dinner was really good. The room was especially nice.
Disliked: Breakfast staffing levels- those that were there had too much to do- clearing, restocking the buffet etc.The buffet was rather basic for a hotel of this level. There didn’t seem to be any options that were not on the table-eg poached eggs etc

Warning; avoid the upper floor...

Liked: Food was excellent and the beds comfortable. We decided it had Agatha Christie vibes with torn cutains and shabby carpets in public areas.
Disliked: Checking in did not go well. We were not told about breakfast or the (very sparse )bar. On reaching the room it was not made up as a twin as booked and we had to wait in the hallway while this was addressed. A brief note in the room said a member of staff would bring fresh milk shorty after our arrival. When this did not happen I tried to phone reception but the number did not work. I then walked down the very dangerour stairs with no handrail to be told the phone number had changed and that they only brought milk if people ordered it (when?). I asked for a fan for the very hot rooom which was elivered promptly but I could not find a suitable socket.
