Disappointing

Liked: The place, grounds and building are very beautiful. There is a lot of art and wonderful furnitures; Our room, a double deluxe was very nice and comfortable, and quiet. One single member of staff was friendly, a lovely lady with a little pug dog we met in the car park when we first arrive, sadly the only nice person working there that we encountered!
Disliked: This was our wedding anniversary, so a treat and with the rating and cost we expected it to be a wonderful experience with at least good service. We got to the room and- wanted a cup of tea; it said fresh milk will be brought to your room on arrival, wasn’t and my husband had to go and get some,- I decided to have a bath before dinner booked at 8pm: 4 bottles of shampoo but no shower gel or soap; called reception to ask could they bring some, was told to wait on the line, then 5 min later told that someone would try and find some and bring it up, in a very non friendly manner, as if it was a bit demanding to expect soap! 5-10 min later a gentlemen knocked on to the door, no sorry about this, grumpy and handed over one single mini shower gel for the 2 of us!- The website description said “decanter of Madeira and Welsh tea cake” would welcome you in any room, there was no madeira, and we didn’t dare asking after the shower gel incident- diner: food was lovely but the serving staff unfriendly, not one smile, and food arrive on its own, no drinks, had to ask if we could possibly have our drinks with our food. No sorry. No smiles.- breakfast was a shamble and disaster, again, the website shows a lovely breakfast menu with plenty of choice : it was not, it was a buffet. we were down at 9:15 (breakfast ends at 10) there was nothing left at all hot food wise. only cereals and bread, no pastry. We got told they would bring more hot food out, which they did after 10 minutes, but no baked beans at all or black pudding, no pastry or croissants and no fresh fruit, and when I asked again they said it was too near breakfast end time!!! We were there 45 min before end time!!! … menu on website mentions omelettes, and avocado on sourdough options, none of that, the smallest buffet ever, no staff, unfriendly grumpy gentleman.Last: one of the bath gown had what looked like lipstick or foundation on the collar, and the bedsheet had black marks, i believe they were clean.

Exceptional

Liked: The location was brilliant and served a lovely stay staff were keen to help even though they were skeleton staffed.
Disliked: Staff were not so good around serving dinner, that needs massive improvement. They are kind, but clueless how to serve customers at the table

Wonderful, laid back and magical!!

Liked: The room was everything I expected it to be, very comfortable and warm and was spotlessly clean. Breakfast the following morning was very good quality with a very good choice.
Disliked: This is not a criticism, but upon check in we could have been showed where to go for breakfast and what time with the person who checked us in, and the wonderful rooms that can be used.

Exceptionally beautiful hotel

Liked: Gorgeous mansion in countryside. Surrounded by Welsh nature. Decent food. Comfortable bed.
Disliked: Insufficient number of staffs (many hotels now have the same issue). No lift (I needed to bring up heavy suitcases to our rooms on the 2nd floor).

Liked: This is a beautiful building in a stunning location. The rooms are tastefully furnished in high quality materials, however….
Disliked: A very disappointing experience. The building and rooms are delightful but the customer service is very poor. On arrival you are met with signs apologising for staff shortages due to “a Covid outbreak”, but reviews going back years make comment on the inadequate staffing levels so it seems somewhat convenient. In any event it is effectively saying “we’re charging you full whack but you’re not getting what you’ve paid for”, and that is before you even get to the unmanned reception desk. We were shown to our lovely room (no porterage for our bags despite what the customer reviews on the website say) and were impressed with the excellent bed and bathroom. No mini fridge or mini bar, which was a surprise. No problem, we’ll get a drink from the bar… The drink prices are quite high but for the bar to have no peanuts or crisps of any description is just unsatisfactory. Similarly, not to light the fire in the beautiful lounge, the feature that is the entire focus of the room on a dark November night, because the fire safety certificate has lapsed is again, just sheer managerial incompetence. We had booked a table for 8pm, celebrating my wife’s birthday (of which no acknowledgment was made at any stage during our stay), but were told the dining room was full and we’d have to wait until a table became free. Eventually we sat down at 8.35 for a nice meal served by extremely pleasant staff who were clearly over worked and insufficient in number. We retired to the lounge, had a pleasant chat to other guests who were similarly surprised at the mismatch between expectation and reality of the hotel, and went to bed. There were no staff evident when we did so. What followed was a terrible nights sleep caused entirely by the background music in the lounge, directly below our room, playing on a loop all night. There were no staff to turn it off. Breakfast was disappointing to say the least.

Liked: Total class, both my husband and myself have fallen in love with Llangoed Hall which is set in some 19 acres. Truly a special place. Bedroom, with a gorgeous rural outlook, was stunning, both dinner and breakfast fabulous and staff welcoming and friendly. We stayed only one night, but left feeling refreshed and relaxed such is the beauty of the place and its surrounds. The only down side was we didn't want to leave and cannot wait to return in the not too distant future.
