Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Carole, Belfast, visiting Ulster Hall Mon, 13 March 2023

Decided to eat in the hotel as the weather was bad. Only suitable food for vegan/vegetarians was a cold salad at £13 so ordered two with hot chips. When it arrived it was just a bowlful of cos lettuce and a small spoon of avocado, not even fresh! The waitress apologised profusely for a salad that any Chef should be ASHAMED to present in a well known respected hotel. When we asked for more variety in the salad and an egg it appeared with a dressing, a small amount of tomato and lots of raw onion. At the most what was given to us would cost less than £1 each. With hindsight, if the waitress hadn't been so apologetic and staff in the bar so kind and understanding I should have made an almighty fuss and demanded my £26 back. So my advice if you prefer not to eat meat or fish and want a hot meal, don't eat at Leonardo. Two extremely disappointed ladies, left feeling hungry, for an extremely good concert in the Ulster Hall.

Disliked: Expected a twin room not a bed settee.

Faeces in bed

Liked: The location is very central
Disliked: Severe lapse in hygiene. Discovered faeces in the bed so obviously the room hadnt been cleaned or bed changed. This falls far below any reasonable standard of basic cleanliness. Wouldnt recommend this hotel

Very good

Liked: So central and convenient to the Railway Station. Staff were really friendly and helpful. Rooms were lovely and the treats in the fridge and the beverages and biscuits were so appreciated. My only complaints were there were a lot of stains in the carpet and the breakfast was haphazard. There were no fried eggs available, there were no sideplates or milk. They did resolve these issues but we had quite a wait.

Try somewhere else instead

Liked: Good location, staff very friendly and doing their best. Easy check in. All the usual amenities provided.
Disliked: Turned up to find dust and hair all over the kettle and cups in the room; stains on the carpet; breakfast was chaotic - understaffed and running out of things. Room very hot with no AC, thankfully a fan was provided but the duvets were still too hot without a flat sheet to use instead.

Passable

Liked: Central location.
Disliked: Rooms were extremely warm . No A/C and the hotel felt claustrophobic. No cash option in the bar. No sky sports to watch any of the football matches. Disappointing overall

Weekend break ruined by visit...

Liked: The room was perfect, comfortable bed and excellent bathroom, the staff at reception when we arrived and serving staff in restaurant. Particular praise for the receptionist who welcomed us to the Leonardo Hotel and I could not speak highly enough of Helena in the Restaurant.
Disliked: The bar service on the Saturday afternoon from the barmaid could only be described as poor, she seemed to be so disinterested in her work, her customers and certainly would not have encouraged anyone to remain for a second drink. The attitude of the chef when we visited the restaurant towards me was rude and disgusting, I ordered the steak frite which was described on the menu as "strips of steak served pink" but was served a 8 ounce steak instead. I could have and did accept this but when I cut into it I found it was cooked to well done and I prefer my steak cooked medium rare. I brought this to the attention of our server, Mark, who apologised and brought it back to the kitchen only to return some minutes later with the same steak which was cut down the middle, mark explained to me that the Chef had cut it down the middle and found it pink in the centre and would not be replacing it. I tried to eat it but was unable to and the best part of it was returned when the table was cleared by Mark at the end of our meal. This visit to the restaurant has ruined our experience and as a result we are unlikely to return to the Leonardo Hotel.
