We recommend the Place D’Armes...

Liked: Good location for biking & exploring Montreal, excellent staff, fine restaurants
Disliked: Would book a larger room for future visits

Broken air conditioning and terrible...

Liked: The hotel is well located, has slightly dated room interiors, but has most amenities needed for a stay. The restaurants and bar are good.
Disliked: Toiletries are sparse and just 3 tiny bottles of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are allocated daily, so do not rely on these, as they are not enough for 2 people. Our main complaint was the air conditioning. We stayed 2 nights and the room was unbearably hot on arrival, and Montréal was over 30 degrees C. We reported this to reception who said ‘the air conditioning was being repaired and would be back to normal very shortly’. The room was cool within 5 -6 hours, but was hot for a long period of time and was unbearable, so we left to go to a local cafe and find some respite. The next afternoon we returned from our day @ 6pm and the room was boiling hot again. We reported this again to reception, as we were leaving for a last nights dinner reservation, and were told the air conditioning was broken again, but guaranteed our room would be cool on our return. Unfortunately we returned at 10.30 pm to an unbearably hot room. I reported this for a 3rd time to reception who basically just apologised and said nothing could be done until the next day and asked me ‘what I wanted them to do about it’? or they could switch our room, which by this time was 11pm. We had a taxi booked at 5.45am for an early rise to get our flight so did not have the time or inclination to switch room and move all our things, as we had limited time to rest and so endured a poor nights sleep before our flight. The fact we had to complain and report our constant air conditioning problem throughout the duration of our stay and finding out each time that the hotel were already aware of this, but had not notified us or apologised was poor service. We also were told that 3 other room guests had been offered and moved to other rooms for the same problem. Montréal was over 30 degrees on the day we arrived and extremely hot throughout our stay. Basic lack of air conditioning ruined our visit and quality of sleep and we felt let down by the hotels lack of empathy, concern or ability to keep us updated.

Fraud

Disliked: I had an unauthorised charge of over 55k cad which was not in the invoice and had to spend a lot of overseas calls and time to get my credit card company to check with hotel. There was no response from the hotel either. This hotel is a FRAUD! If this does not get solved in the next 24 hours, this should be a police investigation matter. I had only stayed 1 night.

Place D’Armes is an exceptional...

Liked: We stayed at least one year before and find the staff to be outstanding, the location perfect, convenient to subway, old and new city. They have a lovely roof terrace bar/restaurant with capable bartenders and are attentive to all your needs.
