Le Petit Hotel Vieux-Montreal - Saint-Paul by Gray Collection

Disappointing

Disliked: We were made aware that there were works outside the building a few days before we arrived (I.e. just outside of the free cancellation period), but they were pretty extensive. We arrived on a late flight from the UK and by the time we’d dragged our cases over the rubber matting to the steps of the hotel, a little courtesy to help us up the steps would have been appreciated. There was no water in the room and when we asked for some, were told we could drink the water out of the bathroom taps. We were on the ground floor and woke to the builders on the stroke of 7, washing out their buckets literally outside of our window. Not sure if the hotel was full but a room a bit away from where all the supplies and equipment for the builders were being kept, would have been appreciated.We fully appreciate that these works were outside of the control of the hotel, but there could have been a bit more of an effort made. I don’t think I’ve ever stayed in a hotel where there hasn’t been at least a small bottle of water provided in the room and I’ve certainly never been advised to drink the water out of the bathroom taps!

Very good

Liked: Continental breakfast very good. Dining area was small. Staff was very helpful in suggesting restaurants and places to visit. Very friendly and kind. Loved the neighborhood.
Disliked: I requested a quiet room far from construction but it was smaller and darker than expected. No fault of the hotel, circulating the area around the hotel (especially carrying suitcases) was awkward.

Exceptional

Liked: A little gem in the middle of old Montreal
Disliked: Construction nearby

A reasonable place

Liked: Location is great. Room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was disappointing, a poor choice and not enough tables or space for everyone. The staff were at best, indifferent. They weren't welcoming or friendly.
Disliked: Staff attitude. No coffee or tea in the room. Going downstairs to get a drink is a pain!

Very good

Liked: Location was excellent.
Disliked: Construction on the street made it difficult to access. Parking was not readily accessible without using the valet service.

Excellent small luxury hotel with...

Liked: The staff, especially Nicholas and Emil, were attentive, helpful, and well-informed. The housekeeping was excellent. The bed was great. Everything we wanted to do was within walking distance.
Disliked: It would have been marginally better if the street repaving (cobblestone replacement) outside the hotel had been finished, but it only interfered with getting our car to the precise location for valet drop-off.

Solid city hotel but some...

Liked: Large room, good location.
Disliked: Beds very soft and saggy, breakfast minimal selection.

Exceptional

Our first trip to Montreal...

Liked: Charming neighborhood in Old Montreal. Petit breakfast had good variety of choices
Disliked: Construction out front which we were warned of.
