Lovely overnight stay in a...
Liked: The room we stayed in was called Arundel and was spacious and clean, with good facilities, comfy bed, nice view, in a lovely setting. Check in was speedy and the front desk is open 24/7 presumably as they get a lot of custom from people arriving at Gatwick. The staff were all very friendly and professional. We were told that the bar is open 24/7 but we didn't use it. The grounds are very pleasant and we were able to have a quick explore before bed and met a very friendly black and white cat, although it isn't a resident of the hotel so your mileage may vary. The hotel does have to operate within the design constraints of being a 500 year-old listed building but our room was nicely done and had a lot of character. It didn't have any sort of air con or fan, but with the room being over 2 floors, opening all the windows allowed the hot air to quickly chimney away, so we were able to get a good night's sleep despite high temperatures of around 30C the day we arrived. Breakfast was delicious, high quality and sufficient for us. However, hungrier travellers may question a full English that doesn't come with toast. The dining room was full so we were seated in the lounge which if anything was a bonus as it was very comfortable and a little more private. There is also a continental breakfast option with cereals and pastries, but we didn't try that.
Disliked: Main negative point was the shower temperature. One of the heads would not shift from molten and the other would alternate between lukewarm and quite hot despite me not touching the taps. I would happily stay again but might perhaps wake up a few minutes earlier and opt for running a bath instead.

Stay over night for airport.
Liked: The Manor is beautiful as are the surroundings. I upgraded to a luxury king room and it did not disappoint. The bathroom was wonderful and massive. It had a roll top bath, double sinks, toilet and bidet and the shower was huge with great water pressure. The bed was very comfortable and the black out curtains didn't let any light in whatsoever. It was so quiet in our room. We would not hesitate to stay again.
Disliked: I ordered the fillet steak for dinner and it was awful. It was just a plate of fat and the chips that accompanied it where also not good. I did not eat it but at least they didn't charge me for it. It's a shame as the starter was very nice so I had high expectations for the main.
