Disappointing experience in a building...

Liked: The staff were outstanding - Ella who checked us in also looked after the bar and was clearing/serving at breakfast the next morning. She couldn't have been more helpful or charming. The external part of the building is lovely, a stunning tudor listed building with lovely manicured gardens.
Disliked: We arrived on a Sunday night (Easter) and the only food available was Roast Dinner which we didn't want, or to order room service. I was travelling with my parents for a birthday helicopter flight the next day and we wanted a light meal together, not sitting on a bed room floor. We opted to go to the local pub, which was bad (avoid at all costs), but the hotel left us very few options to have a light supper together. Also room service was offered until 8.30pm so I'm not sure what you would do if you arrived later in the evening. I was in the Mews which was a modern and nicely decorated room - however there was dust all over the bedside table so didn't feel clean and the radiator was on full and I couldn't turn the dial down so slept with the windows open, which didn't feel great on the ground floor where anyone can access the grounds. They were out of avocado at breakfast and my eggs arrived cold - they had obviously been sat out for ages. the staff were doing their best but they seemed low on servers. The decor is scruffy and not fully in keeping with the period building. It feels a bit neglected - nothing luxury about the overall experience, sorry. Overall this should be an outstanding hotel but falls short on no one picking up on the details and the staff on the ground were in the firing line with guests complaining every time I went to the desk. I felt for them as the people in charge were nowhere to be seen. I wouldn't stay again.

Historic house, great food, but...

Liked: Restaurant food excellent Moated Elizabethan Manor House remarkable
Disliked: Shower tray dangerously slippery, no grab rail or shower tray mat for security. Issue needs urgent attention

Relaxing place

Liked: Friendly staff, stunning location and hotel, clean facilities, good breakfast, and well-appointed room amenities.
Disliked: The property didn’t respond to my message on Booking.com. The room was very hot and had no air conditioning, only a small portable fan. There was no top sheet provided, just a heavy duvet, and the room had a noticeable musty smell.

A convenient hotel for one...

Liked: Check-in was good. Breakfast was very good as was the service. The staff could not have been more friendly and professional, especially Ella.
Disliked: There was no information in advance that the restaurant was only offering a roast meal on Sunday evening and that the only alternative was room service. The room was quite large but dimly lit and looked rather gloomy. The tea making facilities were hidden in a cupboard that was disguised as a chest of drawers. There was no mention that the hotel did not have a lift.

Excellent location. Ideal stopover when...

Liked: Lovely Tudor Manor House. Only 10 minutes drive from Gatwick, but in a lovely secluded location. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The ‘cosy’ double room was much bigger than expected and was very comfortable. We will definitely stay again.
Disliked: Nothing.

Charming and convenient hotel with...

Liked: The uniqueness of each room, its history and boutique style. The staff are also always exceptional and very willing to help. The food is also absolutely delightful. We use this hotel when flying from Gatwick and would always opt to pay the little extra for the specialness of this hotel.
Disliked: Only that the room was a little hot but I am sure that is fixable!

Ok but maybe better if...

Liked: It’s very old and the room was a decent size.
Disliked: My room was the furthest one away from the hotel in a block of buildings and it was very cold as the windows didn’t shut properly. The TV didn’t work so it was replaced. Not sure why I wasn’t given a room in the hotel as it wasn’t very busy then and I was on my own but I guess that’s what you get if you have a discount room.
