The Spotlight on Lagan Backpackers

Affordable, Social Hostel Stay Just Minutes from Belfast's Music Scene

Lagan Backpackers is a laid-back, budget-friendly hostel located just a 10-minute walk from Belfast city centre. With its casual backpacker vibe, shared spaces and welcoming atmosphere, it’s a smart base for music fans looking to stay close to the action without breaking the bank. The hostel offers free Wi-Fi, free parking, and access to a communal kitchen, plus tea and coffee on the house. You’ll find both mixed dorms and private rooms, all with shared bathrooms, making it flexible for different types of travellers.

Why Concert-goers love it

Lagan Backpackers is ideal for fans catching a gig in Belfast thanks to its central location—most major venues are within a short walk or quick taxi ride. After the show, you can unwind in the chill-out lounge or grab a late-night snack from the kitchen. The hostel’s standard check-in runs until 11 PM, but late arrivals up to 2 AM can be arranged in advance, which is perfect for post-concert check-ins. While it’s a sociable space, the surrounding area tends to stay quiet at night, giving you a chance to rest up after a high-energy show.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a fun, social base
  • Solo travellers catching a long-awaited tour date
  • Couples making a weekend of it on a budget
  • Fans needing a quiet spot to recover after a gig
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who need the basics done well

Food and Drink Options

The hostel has a shared kitchen and dining area, plus BBQ facilities, so you can cook up something post-show. While there's no on-site restaurant, free tea and coffee go a long way after a late night. Plenty of local cafés and takeaways are within walking distance, and you’ll find breakfast options nearby to help you refuel the morning after.

Nightlife Options

The hostel is walking distance to some of Belfast’s best bars, pubs and live music spots. While Lagan Backpackers doesn’t host its own music nights, its central location means you're never far from the action. After the gig, come back to a quiet lounge or continue the night at a nearby club or bar.

What People Say

Guests appreciate the friendly staff, great location, and overall value for money. Many mention it's a solid pick for travellers who don’t need luxury, just a clean, sociable place to crash. The free hot drinks and communal vibe make it easy to meet fellow travellers and music fans.

Areas for Improvement

This is a hostel, so if you’re after plush amenities or private en-suites, you may want to look elsewhere. Some guests comment on the basic facilities and occasional noise in shared rooms, but most say it’s all part of the backpacker experience.

The Bottom Line

If you're heading to a Belfast concert and want a budget-friendly, centrally located place to stay with a social vibe, Lagan Backpackers hits all the right notes.

Liked: The staff were approachable friendly non judgmental (I had my working clothes on)
Disliked: No kettle in the middle of the night....I wanted a cup of tea but the kitchen was locked. Could easily find a way around that.

Disappointing

Liked: The staff were really lovely and accomodating and tried their best
Disliked: I really hate to do this I’m not normally one to leave bad reviews, but I cannot recommend this place, especially not for a solo or female traveller. The rooms are mixed, and while the staff tried to make a separate female only room, we ended up with two men and two of us girls in there. One of the men was incredibly intimidating and I felt very unsafe, so much so that I packed up and left first thing in the morning. There was only one charging point, unfortunately located behind the man’s bed so I couldn’t access it, the floors were dirty, the mattresses stained, and the door did not easily lock. This meant my roommates often left without applying the extra effort to lock it and my belongings were left unlocked, which was out of my control. The showers were cleaned regularly but the guests must have been particularly messy because they were filthy, some of the doors didn’t lock and often the showers themselves didn’t work, I visited every shower in the place that night and only found one working one. The kitchen is good and fully equipped but is also rather unclean. Overall I would not recommend, and certainly not to a young female travelling solo
