Liked: The hotel is about 1 min walk from the exit of the metro station. It also happens to be the terminal stop which means that you can be guaranteed a seat when taking that line. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Despite all the negative reviews about this area, I think the staff and proximity to the station and convenience outweighs everything. It is also very close to several supermarkets like franprix and monoprix, and also fast food restaurants like KFC and Macdonald's. The hotel's breakfast seems like a really good deal but since my girlfriend and I don't eat much for breakfast, we skipped it and went to the bakery next door to get croissants and coffee instead.
Disliked: The area can feel a little unsafe throughout the day, especially when going towards the t3b tram. There's people selling Marlborough cigarettes on the street and you see mentally handicapped people and homeless people roaming around. Some of the reviews mentioned about feeling unsafe after dark but for my trip in June, the sun sets around 10pm so there wasn't much of an after dark issue to worry about. Regardless of the time you will see strange people around but if you can handle the usual scammers and pickpockets, this is nearly the same or even milder. We met a couple of those scammers with the "free" bracelets and those were harder to shrug off than the people near this hotel so just take it as a preview/tutorial of what to expect in the touristy areas. Regarding the room, we stayed for 6 nights but on the last night we realized that some crumbs that we dropped on the 5th day were not cleaned and left on the ground. The sheets seemed fresh but the ground was still dirty unfortunately. There was also a lack of tables to put out stuff, there's just an attachment on the wall but with the kettle, lamp and other things, there was nearly no space to put other stuff. There's also no free toiletries like toothbrush, toothpaste, shaver so you will have to bring your own.
