Better than the Reviews
Liked: We expected most of the facilities and furnitures are out of the date, based on the bad reviews on the website. However, we were surprised when walking into the room: much better than we could imagine. We booked for just one night since there is no other hotel available during the memorial day weekend. We would book 2 nights if we can know the room so nice and spacious. Don't know how they get rated below 5 in booking.com.... Will stay here again.
Disliked: The room temperature was kept at ~80F when checking in, which was a bit crazy for the season. I think 70F should be a much comfortable weather for a good sleep.

VERY disappointing
Liked: Great view from our room in the Mountain Club
Disliked: The check in process was awful. It took 45 min to get access to our room, partly because there were no staff. It did not go the way we were told it would, the # for the lock box was incorrect, finally found the correct one in previous emails. We were in room 219 which did not show on the map we received but did show on the map by the desk so 1 of our party went searching for it and took the door code, was able to access the code and when we all went the code did not work again. So we made our second call to the after services number and over a period of time finally got the right code and got in. I don't know if this was a hotel room or a private room you rent but it was subpar. The woodwork a furniture was banged with no repairs attempted the caulk in the bathtub was dirty and very old, again an easy fix and the room was definitely stuck in the 80s. If the Mountain Club was supposed to be some kind of an upgrade it really missed the.mark. I will give kudos to the after hours service people. They did absolutely did everything possible to help with patience and great customer service.

Clean and good location. Overpriced...
Liked: Good location. Comfortable down comforter. Clean.
Disliked: Way too overpriced for actual room. Very small. Wall between room and next room very thin so we could hear next family's entire evening. Vomit in the elevator. First floor presented like a men's college dorm floor.

Old school ski vibes #ftw
Liked: Super old school ski mountain vibes. Loved the fire, kitchen was super well set up. Balcony added bonus. Parking underneath saved me from hours of digging out.
Disliked: Nothing. Only thing I’d comment is if anyone is coming here looking for super modern, this is not your place.

Poor
Liked: Kirkwood is great. Manager tried to make it better and gave us late check out.
Disliked: No remote for TV, staff unfriendly, room dirty and had 2 double beds with no space when we rented one queen.

Location great. But horrible circumstances...
Liked: Connecting door to adjacent wasn’t closed or locked. A few hours into our stay we turned on a light switch that went nowhere and then started smelling metallic burning. Turned light switch off and the smell went away. Called emergency after hours line and they “couldn’t do anything” not even change rooms. Huge disregard for our safety. We slept with the window open in freezing temps and the heater blasting. Needless to say we got horrible sleep. Told the front desk when leaving and they said they could’ve switched rooms and the emergency line should’ve told us to call them. We only got $100 back.
Disliked: Lack of safety and concern for their guests. The smell of electrical fire didn’t warrant someone to come out that night.

Skiing is great but the...
Liked: It was convenient to have a full size fridge and stove/oven. This is essential if staying AT Kirkwood since there are only 2 options for dinner on the property, The Cornice, which has terrible reviews and is referred to as a “crapeteria” and 7800 Bar&Grill which is average American fare with a nice fireplace however crossing the 50 meters of ice sheath from the parking lot was not fun. So we picked up a frozen pizza at the General store and had a much more enjoyable evening. The indoor hot tub was completely empty when we were there (4-5pm) which is awesome. Nice to have a parking spot in the garage as well.
Disliked: THE SMELL- our condo reeked of cigarettes. THE MATTRESS- curves in the middle requiring us to sleep like a taco. Not comfortable at all. NEEDS UPDATES- unless you’re a fan of antiques and not of the admirable type, this place is not for you. We haven’t seen a VCR in years let alone a collection of video cassettes…not that you’d actually be able to enjoy them on the post-it size tv. I wouldn’t complain about the tv at all if the apres ski or evening life wasn’t so non-existent. Fireplace also appears permanently out of service. Our 2 bedroom suite at Hilton Tahoe Seasons at Heavenly was a fraction of the price we paid for a studio at Kirkwood. That said, while the lodging was subpar, Kirkwood is still our favorite mountain for all the reasons you’d come anyway. I just wish it wasn’t such a sacrifice, it would be nice if Kirkwood would put more focus on reasonable accommodations.
