The Spotlight on Kingston Hotel

Historic Charm Meets Downtown Convenience

A cozy, European-style stay in the heart of downtown Vancouver, the Kingston Hotel blends early 20th-century charm with modern convenience. Just a quick stroll from the Robson Street Shopping District and City Center Skytrain Station, this boutique hotel offers an affordable and central home base for your concert weekend.
Built in 1910, the hotel offers both private and shared bathrooms, free WiFi, and a 24-hour front desk. It's a simple, no-frills stay with character – perfect when your main event is the show.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything, and the Kingston Hotel delivers – you're within walking distance or a short Skytrain ride to many of Vancouver’s major concert venues. The City Center Skytrain Station is just 5 minutes away, making late-night travel easy and affordable. While the hotel itself is in a lively area, guests often note it’s surprisingly quiet at night – ideal for winding down after a high-energy gig. Flexible check-in from 3:00 PM and helpful staff round out a stress-free experience.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a budget-friendly downtown base
- Solo travelers chasing a bucket-list concert experience
- Couples making a music-filled weekend of it
- Fans looking for a restful place after a loud night out
- Budget-conscious music lovers who value location over luxury

Food and Drink Options

The on-site Fable Diner and Bar serves up American comfort food – a solid option for pre- or post-show bites. While there’s no 24/7 room service, the surrounding area offers plenty of late-night eats just steps away. Guests appreciate the easy breakfast options after a night out, with coffee shops and cafés all around.

Nightlife Options

You’re in one of Vancouver’s most energetic districts, with bars, lounges, and live music venues all within walking distance. While the hotel itself doesn’t offer live music, its proximity puts you right in the action. After the show, unwind at a nearby craft cocktail lounge or take a quiet stroll through the downtown core.

What People Say

Reviews highlight the excellent location, friendly staff, and great value. Many guests love the charm of the historic building and the convenience of nearby transit. Travelers often mention the hotel’s cleanliness and appreciate the quiet, comfortable rooms after a lively night in the city.

Areas for Improvement

Shared bathrooms aren’t for everyone, so be sure to book a private bath if that’s a dealbreaker. Parking can be a challenge – there’s no free option, and the underground lot comes at an extra cost. The building’s age also means no air conditioning, which could be noticeable during warmer months.

The Bottom Line

The Kingston Hotel is a charming and affordable choice for concert-goers who want to stay central, sleep soundly, and save their energy (and budget) for the show.

Superb

Liked: I had an overnight layover in Vancouver and chose the Kingston Hotel for its location - walkable to downtown. The price for a private room with a shared bathroom was just right. Everyone had a personal key to lock their rooms/belongings and the staff made sure to enforce security, having everyone buzz in after hours. The staff and other guests were very kind. In fact I ended up joining the Trolley hop-on-hop-off tour per their recommendation to get a 2hr scenic tour before my connection. I already want to go back!

Passable

Liked: It's a goofy, quirky hotel in a good location. The AC had a periodic loud droning noise so I turned it off and opened the windows-- it was 78 degrees in the room. The maid daily made the bed and put out new towels. After 2 days, I finally got a shower mat so didn't need to use a towel for the floor. The maid didn't remove and replace the glasses I used daily. Good thing I don't watch TV-- the TV was high on the wall and about the size of a laptop. Didn't use the "spa", about the size of a walk in closet, because I needed to notify the desk to turn it on. I'm a very early riser. Coffee in the lobby isn't put out until 7. They also really jacked up the price because of the convention I was attending. So,,overall, I have to rate the Kingston as fair.
Disliked: Fix the AC. Like I said it was 78 in the room and the periodic droning woke me up. The ac control said that the filter needed to be changed.

Not pleased

Liked: Close proximity to downtown Vancouver
Disliked: (1) having to use a shared bathroom with about 20+ rooms on same floor; (2) of the 2 bathrooms on our 3rd floor, one of them had a shower stall that was closed - & the other on the floor was men only use… my wife needed to prepare for early morning surgery and this was quite inconvenient; (3) the price!!! Unbelievable that we payed $500+ for this type of very old room with only a double bed!!!
