Very Good - 4.0 out of 5

Ian M, Canvey Island, visiting The Brighton Centre Sun, 20 November 2022

Enjoyed our stay and would stay again, but would request that our room is not downstairs in the basement

Liked: Friendly staff; good breakfast; nice, clean room.
Disliked: Someone, possibly a hotel guest, opened a fire exit door at 6a.m. which set an alarm off right outside our room. Our room was in the basement so we didn't have a good view and the room was overlooked from the street above.

Under new management but not...

Liked: Being back in Brighton!
Disliked: Disappointing Stay at Formerly King's HotelMy recent stay at what was previously the King's Hotel was largely disappointing. I had booked my room a year in advance under the King's Hotel name, and was only informed upon arrival that the hotel was under new management. This lack of transparency was frustrating, as it removed my opportunity to choose a different hotel, particularly if I had brand preferences. The breakfast experience was particularly poor. Under the previous ownership, a full, well-worth-the-price breakfast was served by a diverse and attentive staff, creating a family-run feel. With the new management, the £14.00 buffet was a joke. It offered extremely limited options for non-vegans and absolutely no vegan choices, forcing me to incur unexpected breakfast costs that weren't factored into my budget. The sole staff member only offered tea and coffee. The room itself had several issues. The walls were paper-thin, allowing me to clearly hear the guest in the adjacent room snoring. The floor was noticeably slanted, and the room door constantly shifted whenever other doors in the corridor were opened, creating the unsettling sensation that someone was opening my own door. The TV volume fluctuated erratically as if someone else was controlling it, making it irritating to watch. The bathroom also presented several problems. The toilet seat was stained and appeared unclean, needing replacement. A large tissue holder on a mini glass shelf left no space for toiletries, and the sink was too small, making face washing a messy endeavor. Finally, the shower knob was incredibly difficult to turn due to its smooth, hard-to-grip design. Despite a fresh coat of white paint, a noticeable damp patch remained on the wall.Overall, the new management has significantly altered the hotel experience, and not for the better.

Disappointing Overall

Liked: The location was pretty good, close to the beach.
Disliked: The room was in the basement, it was very, very hot despite the weather being mild. It wasn't very inviting despite being very expensive for one night. The breakfast was very limited and not what was advertised. The stay overall was fine but we were disappointed as we paid alot for the room.

Liked: Great location for the price. Friendly staff. Clean bathroom
Disliked: The room was far too hot, and the fan was cheap and extremely noisy (broken... something clicking loudly when it turns).

Disliked: An ashtray would be useful outside

Liked: We love the hotel it's clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful it's in a perfect location
Disliked: Unfortunately we arrived in the middle of the change over of companies and not being told about the change of breakfast which normally is very nice but no full English breakfast and a few other issues which we had paid for so we were very disappointed
