Good value for money, great...

Liked: Excellent breakfast, great choice.Comfy bedGreat nearby free parkingAll staff extremely helpful and happy
Disliked: Shower room badly designed. Although it was small, that wasn’t the main issue. The shower door(glass) was only half.Luckily I’d moved my toilet bag to the far side of sink, as Unbeknown to me the shower then washed the whole of the bathroom floor - wetting the towel provided No shelves at all - thus my toilet bag ended up on the floor. The provided toiletries were 1 tiny bottle - not an issue to me as brought my own, but would have expected at least one per person. Again no shelf in shower area - so had to bend to floor to pick up my shower gel etc - Difficult with a small area to navigate.Extractor fan tiny and very dirty - so had to leave light on for ages to attempt to clear.Hotel is obviously used for various events/functions so very dis jointed, not great for signage and mobility/ pushchair issues.

Good overnight business stay

Liked: Clean, comfortable room in what seemed like lovely grounds. Harked back to the good old days.
Disliked: Think reception upgraded my double room which was large and very well appointed with lovely skylights BUT without a window! Only stayed one night so not a problem. Breakfast was welcome but ordinary ( fried eggs cooked to become hard). Staff seemed careworn tbh. And seemingly don’t even ask for an early check in because no reply will even be received. All in all good value. But all business and little pleasure

Disappointing through lack of knowledge

Liked: The hotel obviously sells itself as a wedding venue so first impressions of the outdoor venues/ grounds was positive. Our room was clean but dated, lovely sash style window looking onto a flat roof which had various bits of rubbish and a large blue pipe running across it. - it was a bed for the night. Staff that served us at dinner in the restaurant, which on the surface was nice but don’t look up! were pleasant and full of conversation, very knowledgeable about dietary requirements etc. they really worked hard.
Disliked: Breakfast, Wow!! Husband has coeliac and follows a gluten free diet, information passed over when we booked. When we entered the dinning area at about 8:30am there wasn’t another sole about, we stood looking around for at least 5minutes at which point an older lady just asked us our room number as she walked past us! My husband noticed there was a board which stated gluten free sausage were available but allow 20 mins - he pointed this out to the lady and asked could he request these now, he was told she’d come and take his order! We sat ourselves down and looked at the breakfast bar, limited choice - a yoghurt was the option for a coeliac! Lady came back and my husband asked for the gluten free full English - there was some miss understanding about the ‘gluten free’ as a Few minutes later she returned asking if he could have mushrooms as they’re done in butter! Also told me he could ‘veggie’ sausages, i explained he couldn’t as they’d probably have flour in - I was rudely shut down and told there was nothing on them! Breakfast came with veggie sausages with clearly a crispy crumb on also hash browns! My husband asked if his breakfast came with toast he was told it’s over there and was directed to the toaster and bread!! He just said ‘gluten free’ to which was met with an eye roll! He’d finished what he could actually eat on the breakfast by the time he had two slices of half toasted GF bread put down in front of him! Not good enough!

A pleasant and good-value place...

Liked: Beautiful location and grounds, with a great view. Friendly and helpful staff, especially the young woman who checked us in.
Disliked: Although it was a small room - and we knew that it would be, as it was stated in the description - my partner would have liked to have had a full-length mirror, as we were dressing for an event (there was room for one, on the wall).I had had a shower, then my partner went into the bathroom. As I needed to use a mirror to comb my hair, I took down one of the mirrored pictures above the bed. It was very dusty on top, as well as the hanging clips at the back.A lot of light came into the room at night, as there was an artificial light outside the window, and the blind didn't exclude most of it; and light was coming around the door.

Don't stay if there is...

Liked: The rooms were nice and clean, the grounds were lovely.
Disliked: We booked two rooms for a Sunday night and upon arrival we were informed that there was a wedding and we could expect noise from the DJ until midnight. This would be challenging as we were travelling with 2 young children. A receptionist kindly moved one of our rooms to a bungalow. However the noise from the wedding party was so bad (the DJ may as well have been in the room) that we were forced to abandon the inside room and have all of us sleep in the bungalow. Whilst I knew that the hotel was used for functions, I would not have expected this level of disruption, particularly on a Sunday. Had we been told upon booking that we would experience that level of noise, we would have cancelled our booking or just used the one bungalow. We were refused a refund at check out as the manager was not on duty - we've contacted them twice since and had no answer.
