Poor - 1.0 out of 5

Chris T, Wilmington Sun, 24 February 2013

The room was very dirty, sheets were stained and absolutely disgusting. The food was outrageously expensive and dreadful. No free parking; rude manager. I was supposed to be upgraded and it ended up being similar to a Howard Johnson's hotel - not worth the money.

Liked: None.
Disliked: Dirty room; terrible food.

Wonderful Hotel

Liked: Unfortunately we only stayed one night since we are within an hour’s proximity, but decided to book Kimpton because of their convenient pet-friendly policy. We ended up not having our dog that night, but I would definitely stay here again. The staff was outrageously helpful and friendly, the hotel is beautiful, clean and well appointed, beds super comfortable, and the convenience of the restaurant attached (bar makes a good stiff drink) made Kimpton Palomar the perfect place to stay. I plan on staying here again in the future.
Disliked: Rooms aren’t cheap, but hotels in the area that are not as nice are charging similar rates

Very central hotel with nice...

Liked: Room was clean and comfortable. Lots of amenities like happy hour w/ wine selection, free non buffet breakfast, $20 room credit per night for snacks, nice gym.
Disliked: I would have sacrificed some bathroom space for living/bedroom space. The bathroom was huge and nice though. Jacuzzi tub not really necessary.Impossible to get a breakfast table unless you made a reservation ahead. Wait would have been 1 hr if no reservation. Good thing I stayed several days to find that out. No one's fault but there was a fire alarm that went off at 11 pm. A bit inconvenient, as one of my kids was already asleep and I had to wake him.

convenient and good option for...

Liked: nice hotel and good location.
Disliked: every time I called the front desk with a question or request, the answer was a hard “no”, I didn’t feel there was a genuine desire to help and/or accommodate.

Good hotel, if not for...

Liked: Furniture of the lobby, overall feel, most of the staff were nice and professional. Breakfast (when possible) was excellent, in fact too good for what you pay. Hotel has a messaging system that stays in contact with you and addresses all your concerns. Overall, this hotel gives above what you pay for, if not for simple yet important things they should seriously address that may have ruined the experience.
Disliked: The check-in person rushed my check-in process and was the type of process where all words are crammed into a few sentences with no commas, fullstops or question marks, just words that can’t be interrupted even. “Welcome to bla bla bla last name please (a second to answer) your credit card and photo id there will be a $75 daily security deposit and… and… and… at the end of that information festival I was left wondering what was just said. I mean really. I took my keys and left. The Manager “Paige” was very rude and unprofessional (later). Bed mattress seems too old and of very bad quality. Breakfast although booked CLEARLY on my booking.com for four people and confirmed by booking when I called them, hotel and Paige didn’t admit to it, but made it free as a “favor” not an obligation after problem was escalated. This could be a booking.com issue, or a hotel issue, I don’t know, but what I know is it is very clearly stated on my booking of four people in my room, that breakfast is included, and booking.com confirmed it.Breakfast was not available on the spot, the waiter told me I had to wait on a waiting list for an hour; and although the manager “Paige” denied it being hotel’s fault and said we should have booked earlier for breakfast (?? Really?) we told her we actually DID call to enquire about breakfast the night before , and the person on the phone did not mention anything about booking, only said breakfast timing and that it closes at 12:00.For a hotel that charges an “Amenity fee” this should not be the case. The Manager Paige could have resolved that issue but instead made it much much worse by defying every complaint I had, and being very negative and arrogant with me instead of accommodating and helpful. She gave me nothing, and did not acknowledge anything, even the breakfast booking excuse that was shut down by me, no offer of compromise, resolve or God forbid compensation.

Nice experience

Liked: The overall experience was great! Awesome location, walking distance to other restaurants, shopping stores etc. The cleanliness could have been better. I wore all black sweats upon my arrival and sat on the couch to watch TV, and as soon as I got up, I noticed a nice amount of animal hair on my pants. The center table in the sitting area looked to have dog food on it. The bathroom shower head had grime on it. Appeared white and brown. The bathroom sink stopper was jamed down. When running water, there was no release.
