Poor - 1 out of 5

Chris T, Wilmington Sun, 24 February 2013

The room was very dirty, sheets were stained and absolutely disgusting. The food was outrageously expensive and dreadful. No free parking; rude manager. I was supposed to be upgraded and it ended up being similar to a Howard Johnson's hotel - not worth the money.

Liked: None.
Disliked: Dirty room; terrible food.

I will absolutely return for...

Liked: The room was wonderful, the fitness center was well equipped and clean and the staff and location were terrific! Being unfamiliar with the city, I accidentally went to the sister property Kimpton Monaco from the airport. When I arrived and finally got into my room at the Palomar I found a lovely note, a bottle of wine and cookies to comfort me weary spirit!! I was smitten!
Disliked: The food was terrible! The portions were appallingly stingy -- especially for the money. After a long day of work and travel I arrived and ordered a salad as a late night entree for in room dining. Literally, the portion barely filled one small section of a 3 section plastic take out container! I was too tired to complain. Two nights later, the salmon dinner I had was not very good with the salmon much too heavily salted. I subsequently did take out at Davios next door to avoid the Kimpton food!

Liked: Location, comfort and the fact that they welcomed pets.
Disliked: The room had malfunctioning outlets and a phone that didn?t fully work. The staff were so sparse that when we were the only ones we still had to stand around waiting because the staff member had to finish a phone call or was tasked with simultaneous, multiple service jobs that took them out of the customer area.

Liked: Room was nice especially the bathroom, as I took a room with a spa. Location was amazing. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Had a very organized bag storage system after checkout.
Disliked: Price, no in-room coffee/tea, had to go down to the lobby between 6-10 AM if you wanted to grab something. Felt it was an inconvenience. Views were not that great, but then again I was on the 9th floor.

Very good, eventhough, there was...

Liked: Staff very friendly, comfortable room and good location. The free morning coffee/tea and afternoon glass of wine were a great idea which I enjoyed on a couple of the days whilst staying.
Disliked: My room was not cleaned on Day 3 - I advised Reception at around 5pm, who said I would receive a turn down service, but this did not happen. I complained and was kindly offered a late check out on Day 4 as compensation. However, whilst finalising my packing new guests were brought to my room (and quickly taken out) - front desk thought my room had been cleaned and was prepared for guests, when this was not the case. I accept mistakes happen, this did not overly impact my stay especially as the staff were very polite, and endeavoured to resolve the situation, however, it seems there was a breakdown in communication between front desk and reception.

Wasn?t quite up to par...

Liked: The bed linens were thin and worn. We asked for an extra blanket and it was a brown thin unappealing cardboard type blanket. The elevator interior seemed dirty and as if there was a party in it the night before. The staff st front desk was nice enough. But when I asked them to print something the printers were broken. When we called up our car from valet it took 20 minutes. The price of parking was 50 dollars which is ridiculous. We are on a spring break trip and staying at multiple kimpton throughout. The kimpton in Nashville and in DC were better all around. I will be staying at a KImpton in London in a couple of weeks and that one is fantastic.
Disliked: See above

It was ok!

Liked: The bed is very comfortable and the jacuzzi is really big. The jets in the jacuzzi is amazing too! The resturant we did not go to. A little upset they don't serve Turkey products for breakfast. I think they should look into that to accommodate all guests.
Disliked: Housekeeping was not too friendly. The management team took care of the issue and responded quickly and resolved it in the best way they could. For the price I was expecting the room to be much bigger! The only great part was the jacuzzi. Guess it's so much just for that feature!!
