The Spotlight on Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia By IHG

Chic Boutique Vibes in the Heart of Historic Philly

Modern and full of personality, the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia is a boutique hotel in Center City that blends bold design with historic surroundings. Just steps from landmarks like Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, it's also perfectly placed for concert-goers wanting a stylish base near Philadelphia’s major music venues. With luxe touches like Frette linens, a rooftop lounge, and a pet-friendly policy, this hotel offers a playful yet polished city stay.

Why Concert-goers love it

Set in the heart of the city, this hotel makes it easy to reach Philly’s biggest music venues, whether by foot, SEPTA transit, or a quick rideshare. The Stratus Rooftop Lounge is ideal for a pre-show drink or post-concert wind-down with skyline views and a cozy fireplace. With 24-hour front desk service and a 12:00 PM checkout, it’s easy to roll in late and still sleep in. Despite being in the city center, guests report surprisingly quiet rooms—great for recharging after the encore.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends looking for a lively, central spot with great shared spaces
  • Solo travelers checking off a bucket-list show
  • Couples making a weekend getaway out of a concert night
  • Fans needing a calm, stylish place to recover post-gig
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who still want boutique flair and location

Food and Drink Options

The hotel’s Red Owl Tavern serves up breakfast, lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch—perfect for late risers after a night out. While there’s no official 24/7 room service, the on-site dining covers long hours, and the fully-stocked mini-bar in each room means midnight snacks are always an option. The area is walkable to tons of downtown eateries for a quick bite before or after the show.

Nightlife Options

Live music may draw you out, but you won’t have to go far for a vibe. The Stratus Rooftop Lounge is a stylish perch for sipping cocktails with DJs and occasional live acts. Plus, with Old City and Midtown Village just blocks away, you’re near some of Philly’s best bars, clubs, and lounges.

What People Say

Guests love the hotel's funky, upscale design and its unbeatable location for sightseeing and nightlife. Many rave about the friendly staff, luxurious beds, and the rooftop lounge’s ambiance. Pet owners appreciate how welcoming the hotel is, and concert-goers note how easy it is to get to venues and relax afterward.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that parking is pricey and valet-only, so plan for that if you’re driving in. Also, while the rooftop bar is a hit, it can get busy—especially on weekends—so arrive early if you want a seat with a view.

The Bottom Line

A stylish, music-friendly hotel in the heart of Philly, Kimpton Hotel Monaco Philadelphia is perfect for concert-goers who want comfort, convenience, and a little rooftop glamour.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Richard, New York, visiting Freedom Mortgage Pavilion Sun, 25 September 2022

Liked: Spacious rooms and bathroom; nice part of town.
Disliked: We roomed next to a bridal party who partied loudly until 5:00 a.m. and kept the whole floor awake. Security interrupted them once, but they quieted down only for 5 minutes.

Everything about this hotel was nice, clean and comfortable. Nice staff. Parking in the garage behind the building was a pain. Didn't check out the roof lounge but will next time.

Liked: Very nice; clean; comfortable.
Disliked: Pricey minibar.

Room location and hotel location...

Liked: Loved the corner room location! The wallpaper and general room decor were beautiful. Room was spacious. The bed was very comfortable. It was great that you allowed dogs at the hotel. Very helpful for us.
Disliked: The most glaring issue, noticed by myself and my husband, was that there were 3 doormen standing around talking most every time we entered or exited the building. Not once did any of them open a door for us, even when we were entering with packages or suitcases. It was comical. The other complaint was that the bathroom floor was sticky when we arrived, causing noises when I took a step. I mentioned that to the entrance desk and they got someone there right away, but the problem was not resolved, it was just the same after the cleaning. I was also surprised given the quality of the hotel, how thin the TP was...And also, I am all for conservation, and very much appreciate your efforts in that matter, but the water flow restrictors on the sink faucets were too much. It came out a trickle.

Fix the Elevators

Liked: The location was outstanding, and the staff were wonderful. The design of the hotel is super cute, as well.
Disliked: There were only 2 of the 4 total hotels operating when we first checked in. By the time we checked out, there was only 1 of the 4 working, which made me too nervous to go in the elevator at all. We were on the 10th floor with dogs, so the stairs were not ideal. There was a large party on the rooftop on Sunday night. However, the rooftop entrance also happens to be where the elevators are on the 10th floor. This made it so we couldn’t really go in or out of our room for about 30 minutes on Sunday night, as everyone was exiting the party. That’s not a big deal. However, what I didn’t appreciate was the fact that there were cups, trash, and debris strewn around the floor outside of the elevators after the party. When we checked out on Monday, the trash still had not been cleaned up. Overall, I’m not sure I would stay here again.

Superb hotel.

Liked: We were upgraded to a suite because we were Welsh. An unexpected and delightful experience. We were also given two tickets each for drinks at the bar. Again - a really special touch. The breakfast was excellent and good value. Exceptional hotel ideally located for the historical sites .
Disliked: Nothing - it was great .
