Edinburgh Vibes Just Steps from the Action

Modern, social, and seriously central, Kick Ass Greyfriars (18 ) is a 4-star hostel in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town. Just a short walk from the Royal Mile and top cultural attractions, it’s a fantastic base for music lovers looking to stay close to the city’s best live venues. With a shared lounge, a buzzing bar, and a terrace for pre- or post-show hangs, this hostel offers fun, flexibility, and a great price point.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything here. You’re a quick stroll from some of Edinburgh’s most iconic music venues and clubs. The 24-hour front desk means no worries about late returns after a gig, and the in-house bar keeps the party going after the encore. While it's a lively hostel, the rooms offer a comfy crash pad with clean shared bathrooms and fresh linens. You’ll also be close to public transport and Edinburgh Waverley Train Station, making it easy to get to and from shows around the city.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends looking for a high-energy base
Solo travelers heading to that once-in-a-lifetime gig
Couples chasing a fun weekend with live music
Fans wanting affordable stays near the action with a social vibe
Budget-conscious music lovers who want location without the high price tag

Food and Drink Options

The hostel has its own on-site bar and lounge, ideal for grabbing drinks or a bite with fellow music fans. While there’s no 24/7 room service, you’re surrounded by late-night eateries just minutes away. Several spots nearby serve breakfast well into the morning hours, perfect after a late night out.

Nightlife Options

You’re right in the middle of Edinburgh’s nightlife scene. From live music pubs and clubs to classy cocktail lounges, everything is walkable. The hostel’s own bar also hosts evening entertainment, offering a social atmosphere if you'd prefer to stay in and mingle.

What People Say

Guests love the friendly staff, clean facilities, and great location—especially for exploring the city and catching shows. The social vibe and entertainment options make it easy to meet other travelers, while the common areas are well-kept and fun. Many reviewers mention it’s a great value for money, particularly for younger travelers or those on a concert weekend.

Areas for Improvement

Since it’s a hostel, shared bathrooms and dorm-style rooms might not suit everyone. It can also be a bit noisy at times, especially during weekends, so pack earplugs if you're looking to crash early. And with a 10:00 AM check-out, you may need to plan your sleep-in accordingly.

The Bottom Line

Kick Ass Greyfriars (18 ) is a lively, budget-friendly hostel in the heart of Edinburgh—perfect for concert-goers who want to stay where the music (and fun) never stops.

Great value for money in...

Liked: The location is central and well connected, near to beautiful views and landmarks, also. The beds are quite comfortable and the space doesn't feel cramped, even though there are several people in the same room, mostly because the rooms are cleverly separated.
Disliked: I was next to the window, which was great, but the windowsill was dusty. On my last day, I struggled to get a shower, only found two bathrooms (4 showers) for women and none of them was available. I had to wait around 45 min to use a shower.

Poor - 1.0 out of 5

Very poor

Liked: Very nice place to have breakfast but sticky and poorly washed tables.
Disliked: Rooms too crowded (18 people in one room) resulting in pungent foot odor. Extremely dirty bathrooms and inaccessible showers. We arrived on Saturday night and the lounge had turned into a disco. The noise was very loud even though we were several floors above, and there is no insulation on the walls so we could hear everything that came from the street. There wasn't even a kitchen. We left after nine hours. We were supposed to stay there for two days.Sorry to be so blunt but I hope this is a starting point for improvement because the location is very beautiful.

Amazing location & Value

Liked: We stayed in the 30 bunk room. So the value was amazing and the set up with lockers, shelves and small screens was really nice. There were multiple restrooms which was very helpful. Even though there was a bar, outside area and one living area, this wasn't really a hang out hostel. The location can't be beat, our room over looked the Greyfrair's kirkyard and we always make a point to go through it on our way back. Also super close to the castle and Royal Mile.
Disliked: No shared kitchen, though we were told we could use the Grassmarket's kitchen, but we never made it over there.
