The Spotlight on Kick Ass Greyfriars (18 )

Edinburgh Vibes Just Steps from the Action

Modern, social, and seriously central, Kick Ass Greyfriars (18 ) is a 4-star hostel in the heart of Edinburgh's Old Town. Just a short walk from the Royal Mile and top cultural attractions, it’s a fantastic base for music lovers looking to stay close to the city’s best live venues. With a shared lounge, a buzzing bar, and a terrace for pre- or post-show hangs, this hostel offers fun, flexibility, and a great price point.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything here. You’re a quick stroll from some of Edinburgh’s most iconic music venues and clubs. The 24-hour front desk means no worries about late returns after a gig, and the in-house bar keeps the party going after the encore. While it's a lively hostel, the rooms offer a comfy crash pad with clean shared bathrooms and fresh linens. You’ll also be close to public transport and Edinburgh Waverley Train Station, making it easy to get to and from shows around the city.

Who this Hotel is great for

Groups of friends looking for a high-energy base
Solo travelers heading to that once-in-a-lifetime gig
Couples chasing a fun weekend with live music
Fans wanting affordable stays near the action with a social vibe
Budget-conscious music lovers who want location without the high price tag

Food and Drink Options

The hostel has its own on-site bar and lounge, ideal for grabbing drinks or a bite with fellow music fans. While there’s no 24/7 room service, you’re surrounded by late-night eateries just minutes away. Several spots nearby serve breakfast well into the morning hours, perfect after a late night out.

Nightlife Options

You’re right in the middle of Edinburgh’s nightlife scene. From live music pubs and clubs to classy cocktail lounges, everything is walkable. The hostel’s own bar also hosts evening entertainment, offering a social atmosphere if you'd prefer to stay in and mingle.

What People Say

Guests love the friendly staff, clean facilities, and great location—especially for exploring the city and catching shows. The social vibe and entertainment options make it easy to meet other travelers, while the common areas are well-kept and fun. Many reviewers mention it’s a great value for money, particularly for younger travelers or those on a concert weekend.

Areas for Improvement

Since it’s a hostel, shared bathrooms and dorm-style rooms might not suit everyone. It can also be a bit noisy at times, especially during weekends, so pack earplugs if you're looking to crash early. And with a 10:00 AM check-out, you may need to plan your sleep-in accordingly.

The Bottom Line

Kick Ass Greyfriars (18 ) is a lively, budget-friendly hostel in the heart of Edinburgh—perfect for concert-goers who want to stay where the music (and fun) never stops.

Bir personel yüzünden kabus

Liked: Although all other aspects of the hostel were great, thanks to the staff on duty the night of June 23–24, my vacation turned into a nightmare. The hostel’s location and cleanliness were excellent, and the view overlooking Edinburgh Castle was truly striking. Transportation options and the condition of the rooms were also very good.
Disliked: English:The hostel was clean and well-located, but what happened to me on the morning of June 24 turned my stay into a complete nightmare. My standard-size suitcase, which wouldn’t fit in the room’s locker, had been stored in a separate room by the staff. The evening before, I confirmed with them that I could retrieve it the next morning for my train.Despite reminding the receptionist repeatedly that I needed to catch the 5:48 AM train, they refused to hand me my luggage. Although they could have opened the door with a simple code, they deliberately chose not to. In a condescending and racist tone—without even looking at me—they said, “How can I know you won’t steal your bag?” and made it clear that missing my train was not their problem. Because of this disrespectful attitude:I missed my train and incurred an extra £70.40 in ticket costs,I was also unable to go on the trip I had planned in York.It was the most racist behavior I have ever encountered. I strongly recommend choosing accommodations where staff show empathy and take responsibility—avoid any place with personnel who blame guests, shirk their duties, and display racist attitudes.

Good

Liked: Location was great, walking distance to everything. Staff were friendly. Cool bar area. They offer cool activities.
Disliked: The private rooms are not sound proof at all so other guests arriving home at early hours in the morning slamming doors (they aren’t soft close) and yelling down corridor kept us up every night. Same with outside noise of traffic. Ear plugs definitely needed. Toilets were mostly clean. Shower drain was clogged so had my feet covered by water.
