The location and ambiance are...

Liked: Not great coffee and the little wrapped biscuit wasn't breakfast
Disliked: Breakfast and coffee needs to be better. Ice bucket in room but no ice machines in the hotel. The wait to have ice delivered to room was hours.

Nice hotel, but they handled...

Liked: The hotel is in a great position to visit San Francisco, it’s in Union Sq. so you have easy access to various means of transportation including historic cable cars. It’s also located in a beautiful building. They do not offer breakfast, but in the morning you’ll find a mini buffet with cookies, madeleines and hot drinks near the reception desk.
Disliked: Before arrival I had written to you to ask if we could pay our stay upon arrival and split the bill in two. I received an affirmative answer to my question but when I arrived, to my surprise I realized that the entire amount had already been blocked on my credit card and because my bank blocked the payment of the further deposit that you wanted, otherwise the staff member at the reception desk would have blocked an additional reservation fee on my card. I perfectly understand that the sum was only blocked and not paid, but it can take 5/7 business days to have the amount available again on my card and since San Francisco was the first stop of a two-week tour, that would have been a huge problem for me. Thankfully the second transaction didn’t go through, but our stay was paid with a single card instead of two.The second issue occurred on our second night, we found a huge cockroach crawling on our bed as we were getting ready to go to sleep (exhausted from pur day exploring and with 9 hours of jet lag!). I called the reception and asked if they could please send somebody to take care of it and waited a least 45 minutes and had to call a second time. By the time someone arrived, the bug had crawled between the bedpost and the mattress and we couldn’t find it anymore. The person who came up almost even doubted that there even was a bug!!! So after this, they transferred us to another room, so we moved all our belongings from one room to another and erroneously thought that that second room would be our permanent room so we unpacked again, had things in the fridge and hand washed some socks that we hung in the bathroom, ecc. The next morning we had a prepaid tour to Alcatraz booked and had planned our daily schedule as to leave the hotel at a suitable time to get to the pier in time for our tour. On the way out I stopped at the reception desk to hand back the keys of our first room, where the cockroach was.

Good-value stay in a great...

Liked: Great location and one of the best value hotels in the area. Furnishings were classic and dated, but the room had everything needed
Disliked: Rattling noise in the room when large vehicles passed, could hear other guests, lift very slow and briefly got stuck at check-out, and the first receptionist wasn’t very friendly
