Central location, incredibly noisy, rude...

Liked: Great location, comfortable bed, lovely bathroom, sweets a lovely touch.
Disliked: Horrendously noisy until late. People drinking right outside our window in the courtyard, combined with the music from the pub opposite.Also, a wedding taking place in the hotel. Perhaps shouldn’t be taking guests unrelated to the wedding if unable to cope with wedding and non-related guests at the same time - everything was about the wedding.Any request we made had some link to the wedding (which we were not there for!).Very few staff around. One of which was rather rude - kept wanting us to prove we were staying at the hotel despite the fact that she had seen us multiple times before during our stay.No tables for hotel guests to have drinks at - all occupied by people not using hotel. No one to ask for milk from one morning (so no tea!). Wanted room service one night, looked in the brochure in room. It gave us the number to ring to order room service, but no menu… We gave up! We would think for the price that breakfast would be included. We understood the reason for there being no lift (listed building) but someone to help with bags would be really useful. A lovely man helped us when we arrived (he was working in The Dock) but after that, we were on our own. It’s been rather hot during our stay, a fan at least would have been useful as the beautiful sash windows don’t open particularly wide. Although we didn’t want them open when we were in the room anyway due to the amount of noise outside. Sadly, despite being frequent visitors to York, we won’t be staying here again.

Judges lodging is quaint, elegant...

Liked: The staff and the location! We could not beat the location, so close to all the sites and easy walking for The Shambles. Our rooms were the ones in the back of the property and they were perfect!
Disliked: The bed is our only complaint, not very comfy compared to other places we have stayed

York mini break

Liked: We received a warm welcome from Sam on our arrival. Sam showed us to our room which was off the courtyard. Our room was spotlessly clean, spacious and very comfortable. Lots of wee extras which were much appreciated. The location of the hotel was perfect for all local attractions and an easy walk over Lendal Bridge to the train station. We had the continental breakfast each morning, which provided a good choice of fruit, yogurt, cereal, pastries etc. Diningroom staff were all friendly and helpful. There's a lovely outdoor terrace for leisurely drinks. I'd definitely stay here again.
Disliked: Two areas which could be improved upon 1) on two mornings my friends breakfast mug was dirty (as if it hadn't been washed at all) and she had to ask for a replacement, it was replaced immediately. 2) the downstairs bar felt a bit chaotic when you went in to order drinks. Might have been down to inexperienced staff as they didn't seem to be familiar with the stock, we were ordering cocktails from the menu? This didn't spoil our stay though.
