Delightful staff
Liked: Staff could not have been nicer - upbeat, friendly and helpful. It was also lovely to see some of them hugging each other when they arrived and left. Top-notch breakfasts, big beer garden, easy access from the main road and the centre of Godalming is walkable.
Disliked: Nothing major, but the room and other areas of the accommodation (corridors etc) could do with a little love decor-wise - just some painting here and there, deep clean for carpets, frosted bathroom windows for those that face communal areas etc. Others may like it but, personally, I'm not a big fan of music played to a beer garden - I prefer just having a chat.

A good sleep after a...
Liked: Lovely outside terrace but it rained whilst we were there. The bed was comfortable. The location was great as my sister’s party was held there!
Disliked: Surfaces sticky like many pubs (in Covid this tackiness disappeared- can’t we keep that up). The bedrooms were small and painted dark green so very dark and cramped. The breakfast was a set menu with no options so you couldn’t have say only a boiled egg and toast and jam (tea and coffee were free). That would have been an item from two different choices and cost double (a ridiculous amount for a simple breakfast).

A convenient, comfortable stay perfect...
Liked: We stayed here for a wedding nearby, and it was perfect. The location was convenient and easy to reach the venue. The room was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a short stay. The staff were welcoming, and check-in was straightforward.
Disliked: The only downside was that we requested a double bed, but our room only had two single beds; for one night, it wasn’t really an issue.

A comfortable overnight stay in...
Liked: Breakfast was nice, freshly cooked. Lovely outdoor seating and heated canopies for the chilly evening. Car parking was good with an electric charge point (although tucked away).Staff were super friendly.
Disliked: Only issue for some people is accessibility with lots of steps up to the bedrooms.

Not a great experience
Liked: Good location. Nicely decorated, especially communal areas. Breakfast was good.
Disliked: We were inundated with emails and private messages after making the reservation asking us for credit card details, which I refused as booking.com advises against sharing. Day beforehand I double checked our booking direct with the hotel and they confirmed by message that they were expecting us. When we arrived they said we were booked for a different date and despite showing our confirmation etc they were adamant we didn’t have a booking. Eventually it was sorted but it took 3 staff to resolve. Frustrating after a 7 hour journey to get there and embarrassing as there was a queue behind us. They acted like it was our fault (one lady apologised later and blamed booking.com system issues). Room was small with poor lighting so difficult to get dressed (3 small spotlights). No air conditioning so uncomfortably hot. No fridge in the room. Shower temperature was difficult to control as didn’t get a constant flow of hot water.

Passable
Liked: Most staff members were very friendly but seemed rushed off their feet, managing restaurant, bar and guest enquiries
Disliked: Poor upkeep of the room, paintwork scratched with holes in the wall. Insects crawling in the bathroom. Poor sound insulation- loud music from the bar in the evening and noise of hoovering first thing in the morning didn’t make it a very relaxing stay

Disappointing and not worth the...
Liked: Good location for us attending family wedding in Godalming. Good selection of drinks at the bar, though a little expensive.
Disliked: Having mobility issues we rang in advance to ask if there was a lift. Was told ‘no’ but that there was just a few stairs and all rooms were on the first floor. We ended up in a room furthest from reception and the stairs were steep so a real struggle to get up and down.Room hadn’t been cleaned properly from previous guests - we found empty drinks bottles under the bed. Bathroom door was stained.Only storage for a family room was a small hanger with a few pegs, no wardrobe. No iron in the room. These are basic things you would expect for the price paid.We stayed over a very hot weekend. There’s no aircon and window didn’t open more than a few inches. There was a small desktop fan in the room which wasn’t enough and when we asked for another fan were told they hadn’t any left. Sleep quality suffered as a result.
