I mistakenly chose this because...

Liked: Nice welcome with a chilled glass of port. Beautiful interior architecture, lots of water stations around. Cleaners were fast and efficient once they got to your room. Friendly bar staff who made an effort to put the Portugal v Spain final on TV. Attentive and helpful door staff. Great location for restaurants such as Ostras y coisas just meters away.
Disliked: Believe me I am not a serial moaner and my wife works in hospitality so is understanding of what staff have to endure with difficult guests. The sheer wave of noise from outside was incredible; traffic, police sirens, food delivery bikes gathering nearby, local drunks coming out of clubs at 4am and shouting until 6am, endless road cleaning beginning at dawn and all day building works. I have lived in London and can only equate it to living next day a building site that never stops. The owners should really stay overnight in one of the rooms facing the road. There was a lack of basics like coat hooks, no chairs in the room, limited storage space, no mirrors apart from those in the bathroom, air con that did next to nothing and always reverted to 24 degrees. This meant you had to leave the windows open at night and being exposed to the noise. Could have done with a briefing on how the shower works as I ended up closing the main cold tap by accident and had to wait hours for maintenance. Don't try to check in before 3pm. I saw quite a few US families with children lounging round like refugees waiting to get access to their room. Tough when they had travelled so far. The cooked food at breakfast was lukewarm at best and while there were staff around they didn't clear plates quickly and needed prompting for help. Most hotels offer differing egg options when there is a buffet but this wasn't obvious. My wife normally likes to get spa treatments but there was no indication of any facilities and no attempt to upsell any of these premium services. Instead of a detailed booklet there was the inevitable dehumanising QR code which only covered the basics. We didn't have a privacy sign for the door in spite of twice asking for one. The plunge pool was smaller than it looked on the website and because of the heat it attracted skanky pigeons and seagulls so it put you off having a dip.
