The Spotlight on ibis Reading Centre

Budget-friendly comfort in the heart of Reading

Modern, minimalist, and right in the centre of Reading, ibis Reading Centre offers unbeatable value just a 2-minute walk from Reading Railway Station and the buzzing pubs on Friar Street. Whether you're heading to a gig or just soaking up the local scene, this hotel puts you in the perfect spot.
With 182 air-cooled rooms, free WiFi throughout, and a 24-hour snack bar, it's a solid choice for music fans who want to keep things simple and central.

Why Concert-goers love it

Location is everything – and this hotel nails it. Just steps from Reading Station, you’re within easy reach of major venues and late-night trains. After the show, stroll back to a quiet, comfy room without worrying about taxis or long commutes. Check-in starts at 3:00 PM, and with a late 12:00 PM check-out, you can sleep in after a big night. The atmosphere is relaxed and low-fuss – ideal for winding down after the encore.

Who this Hotel is great for

  • Groups of friends catching a weekend festival
  • Solo travelers checking off a bucket-list gig
  • Couples looking for a central crash pad
  • Fans seeking a quieter post-show recovery spot
  • Budget-conscious music lovers who want to stay close to the action

Food and Drink Options

If you're coming back late and hungry, the 24-hour snack bar has you covered with light bites and drinks any time of night. There are also plenty of pubs and restaurants just around the corner on Friar Street. No on-site restaurant means breakfast isn’t included by default, but local cafés are close and convenient for a lazy morning bite.

Nightlife Options

While ibis Reading Centre doesn’t offer live music or a full bar, you’re just minutes from Reading’s best nightlife. Friar Street is lined with pubs, lounges, and late-night hangouts – perfect for pre- or post-show drinks. It’s a short walk to wherever the music takes you.

What People Say

Guests love the super central location, especially for train access and nights out. The hotel gets praise for being clean, quiet, and comfortable, with many noting the friendly staff and smooth check-in. It’s a no-fuss stay that delivers on convenience and value.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention the rooms are a bit compact – not ideal if you’re bringing loads of gear or luggage. There’s no on-site parking, but discounted parking nearby helps. And while it’s not a luxury stay, it’s perfectly functional for a night or two in town.

The Bottom Line

If you want an affordable, central stay with easy access to Reading's venues and nightlife, ibis Reading Centre hits all the right notes.

Poor

Disliked: only one lift in use and the one that was working was a pain when the room card wouldn't work. A hat bought for Racing at Ascot was mistakenly left in reception, when we had realised we returned to reception to ask if they had seen a white box, the chap behind the desk said "yes but it was empty"! and then retrieved the ripped box from the bin behind the counter, he then retrieved a brand new hat complete with labels attached, that must of been thrown in the bin first!! no apologies just a shrug of the shoulders, I know they are not responsible for guest belongings in public areas but surely a bit of common sense when dealing with lost property wouldn't of hurt.
