Budget-Friendly Base Near Birmingham’s Best Music Venues

Modern, minimalist, and right in the heart of the city, ibis budget Birmingham Centre is a no-frills hotel offering everything you need for a convenient and affordable concert weekend. Located just a 7-minute walk from the Hippodrome Theatre and close to Birmingham New Street Station, it’s an ideal launchpad for enjoying the city’s buzzing music scene.

Why Concert-goers love it

You’ll be just steps away from popular venues like the O2 Academy and Symphony Hall, making it easy to skip the late-night transport scramble. The hotel’s 24-hour front desk and late check-out at 12:00 PM are a bonus for those needing a bit of a lie-in after a high-energy night. Rooms are air-conditioned and surprisingly quiet for such a central location, so you can rest easy post-show.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking for a budget base near the action
- Solo travelers on a musical pilgrimage
- Couples planning a weekend city break with tunes
- Fans needing a quiet recovery spot after the encore
- Budget-conscious music lovers who want to save for merch and tickets

Food and Drink Options

While there’s no full-service restaurant, the hotel offers a continental breakfast — perfect for a slow start after a late night. Vending machines are available for snacks, and you’re within walking distance of plenty of late-night eateries and takeaways. Birmingham’s Chinatown and Arcadian Centre are close by, offering affordable bites well into the evening.

Nightlife Options

Though the hotel itself is on the quieter side, you’re minutes from Broad Street’s bars and the city’s many music pubs and cocktail lounges. It’s a short walk to live music venues, and the location makes it easy to dip into the late-night scene and head back without a long journey.

What People Say

Guests consistently praise the ibis budget Birmingham Centre for its clean rooms, friendly staff, and unbeatable location. Many reviewers highlight it as a top pick for concert nights due to how close it is to key venues and public transport. Travelers also appreciate the value for money and efficient service.

Areas for Improvement

Rooms are compact and basic — it’s called “budget” for a reason. There’s no on-site bar or restaurant, and some guests mention that the bathrooms, while clean, are a bit snug. But if you’re in town for the music, not the mini bar, this place hits the right note.

The Bottom Line

An affordable, well-located hotel that keeps things simple so you can focus on the music — ibis budget Birmingham Centre is a smart pick for concert-goers who want comfort without the cost.

Very Good - 4.0 out of 5

Beverley A, London, visiting O2 Academy Birmingham Tue, 1 March 2016

The room was clean and fresh; the bed was extremely comfortable and I slept well. Their was a TV with lots of different channels; people couldn't just walk in and go in the lifts as you needed to swipe your room card to use the lift - so, felt safe and the reception is 24 hours. It's also close to the station. Would definitely recommend the hotel and would stay there again.

Liked: Friendly staff.
Disliked: Not to keen on the breakfast.

Great price. Hotel was clean; staff was helpful; very convenient as was attending a concert at the O2; will most definitely stay again.

Disliked: Bed uncomfortable.

Poor - 1.0 out of 5

Mrs Daglish, Gretna, visiting Utilita Arena Birmingham Fri, 17 October 2014

Regardless of the fact that this is a budget hotel, it is still severely lacking in basics and for the same price, you can stay at any number of other hotels and have a better equipped room. I will not be staying in an Ibis budget again and will most certainly be telling my friends and family to avoid them at all costs.

Liked: Reception staff were pleasant and helpful and the room (prison cell) was clean, so obviously housekeeping are good at their job.
Disliked: NO REAL BED! When booking any hotel room, no matter what star rating they have, the least I would expect is a real bed in the room. This place had a piece of hardboard with an uncomfortable chunk of foam on top masquerading as a bed! The shower opens up in to the room so no privacy and the toilet is in a cupboard!

Poor - 1.0 out of 5

Lisa R, Nottingham, visiting O2 Academy Birmingham Sat, 15 February 2014

Absolutely terrible. Camping on the M1 would have been quieter. The room was dirty and very small; window onto main road would not close properly. Very noisy and a bed that I can only describe as a slab with a quilt! Very poor selection for breakfast at 5.00 - should have gone to Wetherspoons. Would never recommend.

Liked: Close to venue.
Disliked: Hard beds; road noise all night; rooms very small; expensive breakfast with very poor selection. Not an enjoyable stay at all.

Pleasant - 3.0 out of 5

Emma, Swansea, visiting O2 Academy Birmingham Sat, 8 February 2014

Only mega negatives were that the room felt as if you were in a hospital and the duvet was so thin it felt more like a sheet. With regards to the location, it's fantastic. Good value for money and I would stay again.

Liked: Bang in the middle of Birmingham centre; secure parking; good value for money.
Disliked: Looked and felt clinical; bed was hard; hardly no duvet as it was so thin; breakfast was disappointing.

Disappointing - 2.0 out of 5

Daisy, visiting O2 Academy Birmingham Mon, 9 December 2013

It's a good place to stay for one night but no more than that. I found the staff were very unhelpful and came across quite rude. In general me and my boyfriend had a good stay, but I think there is room for improvement.

Liked: Cheap; easy to find; good location.
Disliked: No powerpoint near the mirrors; no kettle; uncomfortable beds and rude staff.

Enjoyed my stay - clean and comfortable. It's a pity breakfast wasn't included in price.

Liked: Good all round.
Disliked: None.

Only 2 small things let it down! 1. No mat to step out on to when you get out of shower (which left the floor wet & slippy) :0(( 2. No mirror by the power point by the tv (yet there was 2 by the sink & NO power point). No good if you ladies are doing your hair/make-up!! :0(( Staff were " very competent"
