Hu Hotel Memphis

Stayed only one night (attended a concert), and was quite impressed. Friendly, helpful staff; top notch, speciality cocktails; mezzanine and roof top seating areas for lounging including a roof top bar with fantastic views of Memphis and the Mighty Mississippi. Impressive and delicious late night room service menu. Walking distance to most attractions, including Mud Island and Beale Street. Room and amenities far exceeded expectations (King Suite). Very nice iPod stereo. Flat screen TV integrated with iPod as well. Highly recommend, especially if it comes discounted, but still worth it at full price.

Comfortable, convenient, pleasant

Liked: I booked a room in the Hu. Hotel for my son, a professional musician, who was attending a convention in Memphis. He was very pleased with the hotel and the friendly, helpful staff. He especially liked the rooftop--the bar and the view. The hotel was close to the convention venue and just a short walk to Beale Street. Breakfast was available at the convention, so he didn't have the one at the hotel. He hopes to return to Memphis in the near future and plans to stay again at the Hu.
Disliked: Nothing.

Overall, our close proximity to...

Liked: We loved how close everything was to this hotel! We were in a 5-10 minute walking distance of the baseball field, tons of restaurants and shops.
Disliked: Although the property has had some remodeling, it still felt very old and a little outdated. The carpeting was gross, and the bathroom had visible water damage on the ceiling. There was only one working elevator, so the wait time was inconvenient. Also, I knew beforehand that there was a rooftop bar, however, the noise level from the bar was unbearable. I asked specifically about this when checking in, and I was assured it wouldn’t be an issue. The noise level in the hallways were also a problem. Either the walls are paper thin, or guests coming in and out were extremely loud.

Decent but at this level...

Liked: The rooms were not bad. A little worn but bed and furniture was good. Bathroom was spacious and nice views of the city.
Disliked: Lobby area was pretty worn out. They need some updates. Staff was messy and always seemed to have issues with the computer system. Almost as if they didn’t know what they were doing and very slow. One employee at the desk at a time is not enough.
