Hotel with charm, but would...

Liked: Breakfast buffet with a lot of different options.The view of the sea from the window.The small terrace annexed to the room.
Disliked: No elevator and millions of stairs to climb with suitcase and baby stroller.Sink in the bathroom was not draining properly and in general the bathroom would need renovation.The room was on the top floor, very close to the roof and therefore getting very hot in a summer day: no AC, the room was provided with two small and a bit ineffective fans.

Stavern is wonderful, it deserves...

Liked: The location is really good - right in the center of Stavern next to the Danish fort and the harbor.The bed was comfortable.Breakfast was good.
Disliked: I think your impression of the hotel is highly dependent on what room they give you. They have rooms in the basement with no windows - wow! And ours was on the third floor (room 307 to be exact) and it faced out at the balconies of five other rooms. The bathroom window has frosted glass to about four feet off the floor and no curtain, so if someone is on one of those balconies, they can pretty much watch your entire routine in the shower and on the john. The bedroom at least has a curtain you can pull for privacy, but then there's no airflow and in the summer (we were there in early July) it gets stifling. The haughty woman at the desk seemed unconcerned about any of this and when we asked about another room, she said "this is what the system assigned."There's no lift, and if you have a spouse who stretches airline baggage weight limits like mine does, carrying everything up the stairs will make a man out of you.Although the food at breakfast is plentiful and solid enough, the room itself has the sun beating on it and by 8:30 it's unbearably stuffy, yet none of the staff seem to think that opening some windows is in order.The bartenders don't know how to make the simplest drinks, even the ones on their drinks menus. The menu shows four brands of Aquavit - they had just one.If you have a car there is parking outside the hotel, but not much of it, and it requires a competitive spirit to get a space.

Very good

Liked: Breakfast Good. The gluten free choice was good - bread and buns.
Disliked: «Gulost» and «brunost» has no precision. What were they?

ok

Liked: Breakfast was excellent. We had a balcony we could use, nice view. Rooms were ok and the same with the bathroom and the separated toilettroom
Disliked: We went for dinner. The fish served were a bit too much based and dry. The chef should have used a shorter time on the pan with the monkfish.

Lovely location. Full of old...

Liked: Location and wonderful restaurant staff. Food was also quite good! Especially the buffet breakfast.
Disliked: Too much furniture in our room. Hard to move around without hitting a chair. Weird makeshift closet in room. Definitely an afterthought.

Disliked: Bathroom full of mold, shower area terrible, mold in the joints between the tiles. Plaster falling off over your head when you take a shower. Room nr 9
