Liked: The location was central The staff were very helpful and friendly The room was a very good size I would recommend the Vauban to anyone visiting Brest in France
Disliked: The only thing I can complain about is that the floor of the shower was very slippery it needs a mat

Great, non chain and authentic...

Liked: The location is excellent, the room itself was generously sized and clean. It was quiet but the whole hotel was quiet. There was a live music event that night but I think the staff were careful to allocate us a room as far away as possible so it was no problem. This is what you'd think of for a French hotel circa 1965 - cage lift, bell on reception, real key, bistro atmosphere and red velvet.
Disliked: It is a little dated in the facilities but in effect it's got a real retro charm and they are playing on that. Breakfast was ok not amazing and service to get more items not great.
