Hotel Valencia Riverwalk

We stayed here in February 2010 for a weekend. We had tickets to a show at the Majestic Theater and chose the Valencia because it is only a block down Houston. We got the Theater lovers' package, which included dinner at Citrus. (Reservations were still required at Citrus, even though we had booked the package, FYI.) Only complaint about Citrus was that the tables are way too close to each other. We sat near a table of four and it felt like we were all at the same table. Not conducive to intimacy. Hotel itself is beautiful. Yes, it is dark, but that is the atmosphere they are going for. I don't recommend this hotel for kids, although we saw some kids staying there. The bed was nice and comfy, the bathroom nicely appointed and everything was immaculately clean. We used the valet parking, which is free if you eat in Citrus. Very prompt when we called for our car. The hotel is on the "deserted" end of the San Antonio Riverwalk, meaning, very quiet. If you want more excitement, or to be closer to the fun on the RW, then stay elsewhere. But for quiet, the Valencia is the place to stay. It's a little more expensive than some other locations, but well worth it.

Liked: Hotel is beautiful and staff are very nice.
Disliked: The room lacks a small refrigerator and microwave that most hotel rooms now have. We checked in at 3:36 pm which was 24 minutes early from normal check in at 4:00 pm. We got charged a $30 early check in fee which I was not told until the emailed the invoice.

Disliked: I ended up paying twice for my stay. The floods had me check in a day late and Booking.com charged me the full premium ce and my reservation was canceled so then I had to pay again at the property. Most expensive stay ever.

Liked: The bed slept well, the pillows were a little too soft though. The location to the Majestic Theater was great!
Disliked: It was not mentioned at check in or in the room but the TV did not have a remote. It took a while for my husband to figure out he needed to scan the info and work it remote less. He called for a remote controller, but it came much later. The vanity make up mirror in the bathroom did not work. I plugged in to many different outlets but did not turn on.
