Hotel Torenzicht

Disappointing

Liked: All reviews seemed satisfying, when we arrived at the room it was dirty (stains on the floor/wall), no private bathroom, the shared showers were dirty (one of the showers had a huge hole at the entrance covered by a rug).The location was right in the center of everything and the staff very friendly. I would not recommend this for families.

Good location.but no elevator

Liked: It’s in the center of the red light..
Disliked: No elevator and the bathroom is a little bit stinky

Good value for money, breakfast...

Liked: Location was great, the bar was really cosy and staff very friendly, we felt comfortable staying there with the 24 hour manned reception/bar, which is closed off to non residents of the hotel after a certain time. The Thai restaurant in the evening is delicious!
Disliked: It was quite loud due to the location, however I guess to be expected in the heart of the red light district.Beware of pick pockets walking very closely around the red light area.

It was okay

Liked: The location was really the best thing about the property.Rooms were okay and clean.The reception was really good and helpful.
Disliked: But the stairs were really steep and we were staying on 3rd or 4th floor difficult to say. It was not very pleasant to go up and down the stairs.

Fine if you just need...

Liked: This was a hotel to endure, not enjoy. It is perfectly fine if you are not planning on being in the hotel much or just need a place to crash, the room size was good and the free breakfast was basic, but filling.
Disliked: Be aware, the hotel is right in the middle of Amsterdam's red light district, avoid if you are not comfortable seeing such things. The hotel is right above a pub so not suitable for all, fine for solo travellers and couples. The shared bathroom was a big problem, the shower leaked everywhere and the toilet didn't flush properly.

Superb

Liked: Spartan but quite large room in the middle of Amsterdam. Very clean room, comfortable bed, solid curtains allowing no light inside. I had a sink in the room which was convenient (paid for the shared bathroom so it was an extra :)). Quite silent (in April). Very good price for the location and quality.
Disliked: Narrow stairs - but that's something you cannot change...
