The Spotlight on Hotel Ste-Catherine

Comfortable, budget-friendly base in Montreal’s vibrant Gay Village

Modern and unpretentious, Hotel Ste-Catherine is a cozy, value-focused hotel located in the heart of Montreal's famous Gay Village. With its bright, spacious rooms and views of the city, it provides a peaceful retreat just steps from the city's buzzing nightlife and entertainment hubs.

Why Concert-goers love it

If you're heading to a show, you'll appreciate how close the hotel is to major streets like St. Laurent Boulevard and St. Denis Street—home to countless live music venues, bars, and clubs. With public transportation just minutes away, getting to and from your concert is easy, even late at night. The check-in time of 13:00 allows for early arrivals, while the 11:30 check-out gives you a bit of breathing room after a late night out.

Who this Hotel is great for

- Groups of friends looking to stay near the action without breaking the bank
- Solo travelers catching a must-see concert or festival
- Couples making a weekend getaway out of a show
- Fans seeking a quieter spot to recharge post-concert
- Budget-conscious music lovers who want location and value

Food and Drink Options

While the hotel itself doesn’t offer dining, it’s surrounded by a huge selection of restaurants, cafés, and bars—many of which stay open late. Whether you're grabbing a bite before the show or looking for a post-concert snack, you’ll have plenty of nearby options. Breakfast cafés are also within walking distance for slow mornings after a long night.

Nightlife Options

The surrounding area is one of Montreal’s most lively, with bars, nightclubs, and lounges just steps away. While there's no on-site bar or live music at the hotel, you're never far from the city's energetic nightlife, especially along St. Denis and Prince Arthur streets.

What People Say

Guests love the hotel's central location, calling it a great home base for exploring the city’s music and nightlife. Reviews often mention the affordable pricing, friendly staff, and proximity to public transit. The rooms are described as simple but clean, offering good value for the price.

Areas for Improvement

Some guests mention that the hotel is a bit dated in style, and soundproofing isn’t perfect—though this is fairly common in budget accommodations in busy districts. If you're sensitive to noise, packing earplugs might be a smart move.

The Bottom Line

Hotel Ste-Catherine is a smart, no-frills choice for concert-goers who want to stay close to Montreal’s nightlife and venues without spending a fortune.

Deeply Unsafe and Unfit for...

Disliked: I booked Hotel St Catherine for my mother, a senior woman in her 60s, who was traveling alone. I was expecting a basic but safe and respectful environment for an 8-night stay (May 31 – June 8, 2025). However, what we encountered was a shocking and unacceptable level of negligence and danger.Right at the entrance, groups of intoxicated individuals were loitering, openly smoking drugs, and staring aggressively at our belongings. Inside the property, the situation was no better: we found a drunk man reeking of urine and smoke wandering the halls, probably with unchecked access. The hotel room is old, smelly and could be better taken care of. The other guests circling around the premises dress like homeless and behave unpolitely. The Hotel surroundings are the same or worse. That night, my mother was harassed in her own room by strangers knocking at her room door and shouting, which left her unable to sleep and understandably fearful for her safety. This is not just a case of poor management — it's a complete failure of the most basic standards of hospitality and guest safety. It was so distressing that I removed my mother from the hotel the very next day, forfeiting the remaining 7 nights of our booking. To make matters worse, the property has refused to respond to my request for a refund, despite my early and detailed communication - their silence speaks volumes about their lack of professionalism and disregard for guest welfare.I’ve reported the situation to Booking.com and am urging them to investigate and remove this property from the platform until minimum safety and hygiene standards are enforced. No one — especially women or elderly guests — should be subjected to this kind of environment. And to this moment, they (Hotel Ste-Catherine) remain unresponsive. Bottom line: do not stay here - it is unsafe, and management is useless when it comes to problem-solving for customers.

A great stay (dont listen...

Liked: The reason of giving 10/10 is not because this is the best hotel in the world, but because a lot of these reviews are just not filling up and are incorrect. It's not a 5 star hotel like the bigger brands, but it costs just a fraction of the price. It's clean and in the middle of the city next to a metro station. It has all the facilities you need if you are on a working trip and also very helpfull staff. I really can't complain. The AC makes some noise and for that you have earplugs. For the sun coming through you have a sleeping mask. They cannot help the neighbourhood they are in. I had a great stay during f1 weekend.
Disliked: For people with reduced mobility it can be hard, as there is no elevator to go up and the stairs ate pretty narrow. For the rest nothing to complain about.

Bad

Liked: What we saw cannot be called a hotel. We have never seen such filth, where are the sanitary services looking? Unsanitary, feet sticking to the dirt, unbearable stench of mold. After staying for 2 minutes, we left the money and went out for fresh air. We do not recommend this "premises"
